Chicago Tailors Reviews

"I came in for two fittings. The pants were well cut, and constructed, the jacket was a nightmare. The sleeves and the bottom of the jacket were too short and the shoulders were completely wrong The final iteration of the jacket before the wedding was going to have to work, because it was two days before the wedding. The proof came when I saw the wedding pictures and I could see the huge gap between the top of my belt and where the jacket came together. This is now in the permanent record of my wedding pictures. I went back in to see
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
, and express my displeasure over the way that the jacket came out. He offered to alter the jacket and get it right. I went back for at least three more fittings before he offered to start over with a new jacket. Someway, somehow the jacket still did not come out right, and is still too short and has too much room in the front. I can't imagine charging someone a premium for a rush job on a product that still did not meet the specifications as agreed upon when I paid them in full as they requested.

We went to Vietnam for our honeymoon. I had five beautiful, hand made suits that fit perfectly, and were completed in less than two days (with fittings). The cost for those five suits all together was almost half of what I paid at
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
. I even offered to leave one of the jackets that was made in Vietnam for them to use as a template, unfortunately, they declined the offer because they felt they had it fixed.
"Work was carefully and promptly done, and prices were exactly as stated.
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
was very personable, gave prices up front, and called us when the repairs were completed. We will definitely go back and would highly recommend this business."
"I had an expensive pair of women's tuxedo pants that needed to be shortened in time for New Year's Eve. I had never been to

before, but needed someone close with quick turnaround. I was definitely nervous given how expensive my pants were, and explained this to the owner, asking that she try to match the stitching as closely as possible. I picked up the pants on the afternoon of New Year's Eve just as she promised, and she did a FANTASTIC job with the hem. I could not even tell that the pants had not been factory hemmed. I am about to go back with three more pairs, including a pair from Banana Republic since their tailors charge $10 for a lousy job (that in two cases now, has had to be redone). The extra $2 is well worth it given the excellent job and not having to make repeated trips to a BR store! I was thrilled with the hem work done on my tuxedo pants."

to ask about cutting down a shearling coat. was told to bring it to the bryn mawr store for an assessment. was assured they could make the coat much more wearable for me, and i agreed for them to do the work. they asked if the

store was closer for me to pick the coat up at... which it was... and they agreed to deliver it there. everyone i dealt with from the initial phone call to the counter help to the alteration man to the man i picked it up from, was friendly, courteous, and professional. my coat looks MUCH better and i am very happy with the service provided by

! i would not hesitate to use them again & to refer them to friends.
"They did very professional work (the pieces look like I just brought them home from the store). The two dresses were a rush job with just a few days notice as I was going on a cruise and realized that the dresses were too loose to wear, and the shirts I picked up a couple of weeks later. I love the new look of the clothes which had been favorites of mine, and I wanted to keep them in my wardrobe. Top notch work."
"I made an appointment and arrived on time. I waited just a few minutes.
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
was responsive to my concerns, and I trusted her judgment. I picked up the pieces as scheduled, and tried them on before paying the balance. The work is beautiful."
"A small hole in one of my favorite sweaters precipitated my

for a good reweaver, and Chicago Magazine recommended

, with locations on the Gold Coast and in Chicago's North Park neighborhood. I dropped my sweater off at the Gold Coast location and was told they would be in contact with me when the repairs were completed. Fast forward several weeks later, and my sweater was ready for pick up.

's strange hours (open only until 4:30pm) did not make it easy for me to return to collect my garment, as I had recently begun work in the suburbs and it had become difficult for me to be downtown before they close. I did not pick up my garment until a few weeks after the repairs were completed, and only after several increasingly frantic an accusatory phone calls from the business. For the benefit (and entertainment) of Angie's List members, here is an excerpted portion of the most psychotic voice message: "I don't know why you're refusing just to come pick up your sweater. . .
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
, this isn't right. . . I don't understand why you'd bring something in and not pick it up or return any calls. . . I just. . . it's something." I had never before received as bizarre or manic a voicemail before. Not from any ex after a bad breakup, or from any crazy member of my family. Now, this voice message may lead you to believe that I'm one of those sick people who gets off on dropping off garments for dry cleaning, alterations, or repairs. and then leaving them there forever sticking the company with the bill. Ha, the joke is on you, reweaving company! Reality? A too-long turnaround time and inconvenient hours of operations made it difficult to pick up my sweater, only one of several that I own and that provide me warmth and comfort on a regular basis. When I returned to pick up my garment, I asked the nice young man working at the time if it was he that left me the aforementioned message. I told him that it was the single most psychotic, unprofessional voicemail that I had ever received. Without hesitation, the employee told me that it must have been the owner,
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
. This leads me to believe that I am not the first customer to suffer the indignity of dealing with the business's proprietor. If you're looking for a healthy

of abuse along with your garment repair, might I suggest

? If you happen to be reading this,

, might I suggest for you some time on the couch with a good psychotherapist? It's not terribly professional to work through your obviously complex emotional issues on your customers' answering machines!
"My daughter needed her bridal gown altered but was only in town on weekends, when most seamstresses couldn't meet with her.
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
graciously agreed to meet with her, and we agreed to a number of alterations and a price.
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
seemed very busy making show choir outfits, and a bit overwhelmed. When we went to pick up the dress as delivered, it didn't fit, and only then discovered that
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
had 'outsourced' the work and it hadn't been done properly. All six of the inner seams on the dress liner were to be let out, but instead only 2 had been done. The bustle wasn't done at all and the top didn't fit.
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
discovered that she hadn't written down the orders very carefully so the other person hadn't done it correctly.
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
fixed everything in time, but it took an extra trip and stress. She should tell customers when she is not doing the work herself or in her own shop!
"The estimator comes to your home, gives you an estimate on the spot, and is ready to work right then, if you say yes. If you are not satisfied with the price, and wish to negotiate, the same thing happens. You and the estimator come to an agreement, then if you want, the work begins right away. I've rarely seen a company that works like this, and it's always a relief when
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
comes. I know the work will get done the right way the first time. I know this sounds like a commercial, but I've used this company at least 5 times over the years, and it's been easy each time.
"Overall, they did a good job. They do the alterations for the
Chicago Tailors Provider Name Locked
shop, so that was no surprise. The location is convenient, though the shop was always busy! Very professional, though also very pricey. One hundred and fifty dollars was the default for bridesmaid dresses unless there were major alterations required. Mine took 2x to get the hem right, but they were easy to work with and had everything done in time for the wedding. I was happy with the results, but for small stuff would definitely try someplace less expensive."
