Artificial (quartz) is cheaper, more uniform, has fewer voids to collect dirt, and is almost as abrasion and chip resistant.

Granite is more expensive, stains and collects dirt a little easier as a rule, and is slighly more chip resistant as a rule.

For durability, I would not rate one over the other - barring a 250 lb guy hopping up on it and cracking it, either is likely to outlive you. Selection is typically based on appearance - quartz tends to be more uniform looking and does not always do a good job of simulating the veining and variations that natural stone has.

Now some of the man made stone counters rival the real granite and othe stones without the maintainence of stone. There are many of them out there and it is more a choice of looks than anything else. Corian is still a strong choice of tops today and one advantage is it can be repaired when scratched on site. If you don't mind the maintainence you can't beat the looks of real stone though unless you need a few pieces to make up the top as the graining may be hard to match up. I am impressed though at how realistic some of the man made products have become. It is more an issue of what brand are available in your area. Most all are made the same way with crushed stone and basically an epoxy binder used to make the sheets.

From beginning to end they did exactly as they said they would. Everyone was professional and were more concerned with our happiness than their profits. They did an absolutely fantastic job and exceeded all of our expectations.

I bought the deal on here and they were very quick to communicate. The appointments were scheduled for the template and for the install very quickly. Overall it was a 2 week process to get my new counters installed.
I did not pick out my own slab, but I am quite happy with the one they used. It has exactly the look I wanted and my kitchen looks like it worth a lot more than I paid.

Had a very positive experience choosing granite and dealing with sales person. Deal price was honored but additional countertop was fairly expensive. Installation went ok - workers very efficient. However, a few problems came up, including some dull spots on one of the countertops, that they could not solve. Also, they did their cuts in our front driveway and left shards of granite around that could have hurt someone.
Overall this was a good but not great experience. The details matter and I'm not sure I would trust them for a larger installation.

The design process went well.
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
recommended a contractor and he turned out to be great. Once the kitchen was almost done, the customer service by
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
(also the owner) at
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
pretty much ended. We had a serious issue with the very expensive range that we bought through
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
and to this day it has not been resolved. (A year later!) My calls are not returned, emails are not responded to, and on the off
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
that she answers the phone, she promises a follow up, only to never hear from her again. One of the doors on the Blue Star range was "tampered with" in order to make it work in our kitchen and we were never told about this until we noticed that it would not close properly. The Blue Star Rep acknowledged that it had been tampered with and could not be fixed properly. The range was also dented and banged up upon arrival and we were coerced into keeping it - told that the delivery process can be h****** the ranges. We paid almost $8000 for this range and it has scratched and bent parts, it bangs loudly when it heats up and the door still doesn't seal completely. We love our kitchen overall but the service we have received is terrible. We have told everyone we know to go elsewhere for kitchen remodels or appliances. It is now February 2015 and no response.

After the installation, I looked at the vanity top and undermount sink. The counter top fit well and I did not see anything wrong in the sink but did not touch anything because the caulk was still wet. When all the bathroom work was complete and no more workers needed to come in, I did a final cleaning. As I wiped the counter I found a small chip in a back corner and some strange splotches which could be seen depending on the angle and light. I felt something at the back of the sink while wiping it out which was a fine scratch in a vertical line. My general contractor inspected and called ProSource so they could contact R&L. It took several weeks and more than one follow up by my contractor through ProSource before
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
at R&L made contact with anyone.
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
, my contractor and I met in mid January.
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
said he would contact the counter top material representative about the odd color variance in the counter. He said the chip in the counter and scratch in the sink were not there at installation and blamed them on the plumber who installed the fixture and hooked up the plumbing. He said plumbers are often responsible for damage such as I found. I asked if there was a way to repair the chip and he said he would ask the rep. He did agree to replace the sink.
At the end of January, I met with
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
and the rep. The rep said that the color variance occurs when the protective cling sheet is separated from the stone material. He applied some solutions and cleaned the stone to make the splotches disappear. He recommended a way to smooth out the chip.
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
said he would be in touch about the sink.
From January to the end of June I did not hear from
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
. I left a phone message and he did return the call. He said he had recently seen a note on his desk about the sink replacement but had been busy. We agreed on
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
1 and he said he or the installers would confirm before arrival. No one called but two men appeared at the door on
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
1. They had no name badges or company shirts and no name on the van. I did open the door and one said they were there to replace the sink. I asked if they knew what to do about the chip in the counter and they both said no. I relayed what the manufacturer's rep told
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
and me. There was a loud announcement from the man under the sink at one point and when I asked what was going on, the other man glossed over it and said it was nothing. The sink was replaced and the counter had apparently been addressed. When I lightly ran my hand around the sink it felt smooth. Since the bathroom is used only by overnight guests, it was a couple of weeks later when I ran water in the sink while cleaning. As I put items under the sink I saw a small accumulation of water directly under the sink drain line. While running the water, I saw water slowly running down the drain line. While polishing the stainless steel sink faucet I found small indentations in the metal which were never there before.
I sent
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
an email explaining the leak and faucet damages. He replied that it had been too long since his men had installed the sink for him to do anything about either issue. In subsequent writings,
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
again blamed the original plumber and claimed that he informed ProSource that a plumber needed to meet his men when the sink was replaced. He also claimed that his men called him on the day of the service call to report that there was no plumber present and that he told them if I insisted, they could reconnect the sink pipes but he would not be responsible for any leaks. I checked with ProSource and the manager said they had not heard from him about the sink replacement or having a plumber present. Neither my contractor nor I had heard anything either. His men never mentioned the word plumber to me. My plumber fixed the drain line leak. He said two pipes were not tight. He applied a tape wrap to the threads on one pipe and then connected the two.

Since my new bathroom had been used only by family guests before the sink was replaced and I cleaned it after use, I can say with certainty that the faucet was not damaged before the R&L men replaced the sink. The drain pipe did not leak before the sink was replaced. There are several good reviews for R&L. None of them involve an issue with product or installation. There is one review where there was a big problem and
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
did nothing.
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
does not do well with problems. From my perspective, he does not take responsibility for ANY problems.

In an attempt to arbitrate this issue,
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
sent answers to my issues that were inaccurate and he sited conversations which cannot be proven. When
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
is hired directly by a customer, there is a contract. I had no contract with him and therefore had no way to know any stipulations which may appear in his contracts. He stated that the job was small and referred to the fact that it was not worth much money to him. His words indicated that he would not spend time on problems if he could avoid it.
Since his workers automatically reconnected the plumbing drain line when they installed the sink, I believe that the leak is the responsibility of R&L Stone and Marble. Since there were no workmen in the bathroom since completion except those sent by R&L Stone & Marble, I believe that the faucet damage is also their responsibility. I will amend this review if my costs for damages are reimbursed.

Work went very well,
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
is extremely professional, and maintained communication with us at each stage of the process. His people were professional and offered suggestions for improvements as the work progressed.
The work entailed making a template for the new tops, setting up the actual slabs at
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
with the template superimposed and making sure that we approved cutting map. Subsequently, a visit to our home for the removal of the old tops and installation of the new ones was scheduled. The work started exactly on time and was essentially mess-free. The employees who installed the tops were very clean and professional. A slight glitch occurred during installation whereby they discovered that the existing cabinet tops were not level and the walls were not straight both requiring on-site modifications.
Overall, we were very pleased with the professionalism, quality and communications exhibited by all. The new counter-tops look great.

They didn't use industry standards and cut the stone inside the house without tenting the room. Ever since I’ve had the granite installed, I have dust in the house that cannot be removed even though I’ve had the ductwork cleaned twice. The installer had a surly attitude and left a solvent on the backsplash. He told me that I could clean it myself. He also punctured some places on the wall without fixing it. I was disappointed. To this day, if I wipe my tabletops clean with a damp cloth, the next day there’s more dust. I’m sure it’s not healthy to breathe those particles. However, the countertops are beautiful, but the fact that the didn't abide by industry standards has resulted in dust particles in the house. This tainted the whole experience.

Cannot tell you how pleased we were with this whole experience. We met with
Charlotte Countertop Installers Provider Name Locked
at the showroom on Monday January 5th
( just was out and stopped by to look at what they offered) we picked out a door that matched our cabinets and out to the yard to select a slab. then we chose sink, faucet, edging and set up appt for measurements, and install and were out of there in about 1/2 hour. On day of install

and

showed up on time and had teardown and granite installed in 4 hours. They even hired a plumber who came as soon as install was done to hook up plumbing. And my house was spotless when they left ! THANK YOU to all !!! Will definately use them again...and we already have 4 referrals for them !!
