Do not believe any reviews that you read on other sites. Every day the company generates 5-star reviews that are false. ...More /> initial quote by phone: a quote for the price of moving our possessions was completed by phone based on the questions asked by the sales rep. and an initial document was presented at $1,700. Then the representative asked if we would like to pay an extra $300 for expedited shipping, which we accepted. However no note was made in the contract and ultimately delivery was not expedited.
before our move: the company called us trying to charge us an extra $100 for using the elevator, although the contract stated plainly that there was no fee to elevators. The sales rep. responded with, "I probably would have waived the fee anyway."
the day of the move: the movers arrived and stated that they would have to charge us an extra $1000 for the amount of stuff that we had even though the estimate that was given was based on the questions asked by the sales rep. It was not our fault that he did not accurately estimate the cubic feet to be shipped. The movers were very rude. They yelled at us, insulted our neighbors, damaged our apartment and failed to complete an accurate inventory of our belongings.
during the move: we called every number provided by the company, spent countless hours on hold, and were provided with false information about the whereabouts of our possessions for the entire 12 days before our delivery.
delivery: the movers notified us that since they could not fit an 18-
every item of furniture was gouged, cracked, or outright broken beyond repair. the boxes were all so crushed and damaged that it looked like they had been stacked under furniture. An Xbox was stolen.

The movers did not deliver my couch. I had to call them the next day to find out if they still had it. Turns out it was sitting in someone's apartment already. Luckily they were still there and saw that the stickers did not match that customer's stuff. When they called me back to let me know, they said they were 5 minutes away! I was already at work, luckily my roommate was able to run home to meet them again.
The price of my move was the cheapest I found when I shopped around. I hate to say that you get what you pay for but I think in this case that is what happened. I also relied on this company to have the experience to deliver across the country. I was told that some streets in SF are too narrow that there are legal restrictions on moving trucks but I wouldn't know about the extra fee for changing truck size until my delivery. I accepted the risk but I also feel at this point, shouldn't a business be able to look up the size of the street on google maps and confirm whether or not they need to switch to a smaller truck. Oh and it did not instill trust in the driver and his partner when they insisted that the balance be paid in cash. (When my stuff was picked up, I was told that cash or cashier's check is preferred payment). Again, I was given a $100 discount for the inconveniences I experienced (after I brought it up) but the whole experience was so unsatisfying. It was really poorly coordinated. I would not recommend using their service.
My low rating on price is based more on expectations than knowledge. We were comparing renting our own truck and asking friends and family to help vs. the movers. I thought that we would be done in about 4 hours, meaning an extra hour over the deal plus tip. Therefore, I thought the movers was a no brainer, but in the end the cost was significantly higher.
I spoke with the main office before the move. They handled everything, including reserving the parking permit for the truck. The scheduled arrival time was between 2 and 4. At approximately 1:45 I received a call from the driver letting me know that they would be there at approximately 2:30. At 2:30 I got a call that they were on there way and they arrived at 3PM.
There is quite a bit of paperwork, more than I expected. There is a basic insurance included with the move, or you can purchase upgraded insurance for $75 for $5000. I opted for the basic. I also opted for using their furniture pads. Finally, I opted for one mattress cover, $10, for the nicest mattress. I was asked to sign an additional waiver of understanding regarding the other mattresses.
The three guys were very professional, strong, hard working, and meticulous about the wrapping of the furniture. They also provided a few additional boxes (at a charge). We have a lot of furniture for a two bedroom, but it did take a while. It was 3 hours on the loading end of the move, and they were not waiting on us to pack.
We picked up pizzas and the guys were thankful and ate quickly, possibly knowing that all time is charged, but I appreciated the efforts.
On the unloading end, it was very lengthy. It took approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes to unload. The problem, primarily, was that the building elevator was on the opposite side of the building, and it wasn't dedicated to our move. I estimate that we paid for an additional hour due to the wait time on the elevator. Toward the end the new apartment was getting full and the guys were tired and abotu 20% of the boxes ended up in the wrong places. Otherwise, they did a very good job.
At the end, they presented a bill that outlined the time, the tape, the boxes, the pads, the mattress cover, plus what they estimated to be 30 minutes of driving on each end... They deducted the deal and I was left with a whopping $725 bill (Remember, I already paid $300 for the deal). I had initially taken out a few hundred in cash (there is a 5% cash discount) expectting it to be plenty. We ended up paying a portion in cash (all we had on hand), which was applied a discount, and the remaining portion in credit, which was not discounted. It was all quite clinical. I tipped 5% of the total bill, based upon things I read online about tipping movers.
All in all, a good, but expensive job.
