Optometry reviews in Boston

I have been seeing a doctor (now two) in this clinic for several years, both for routine eye checkups and in response to a particular medical incident. I have to say that both the staff and the doctors were uniformly friendly, courteous and efficient. This is a real accomplishment on the part of the staff who are always quite busy handling multiple demands simultaneously.

The two doctors I've seen both struck me as knowledgeable and thorough-going. They take the time to perform a thorough examination and explain what they're doing.

I recently moved to Boston and needed a new doctor for a routine eye exam as more than two years had passed since my last exam. My husband had seen an ophthalmologist in the practice and had been quite pleased so I made the mistake of thinking that anyone in an A rated practice would be a good choice. I was offered an appointment with Dr

and ended up very disappointed. The worst thing was that after I told him I was removing my glasses more than in the past to read, he didn't test my near vision with my glasses on, only with them off, nor did he evaluate my distance vision with anything other than my current eyeglasses until I explicitly asked him to. He was ready to let me go without testing to see if my prescription could be improved on in any way, and even after asking him to evaluate my prescription, he didn't test my near vision - he said I'd see better with my glasses off no matter what. He said there was no significant change in my distance vision and I had to explicitly request a new written prescription in case something happened to my current glasses, but I would hesitate to use the prescription he gave me - I have no confidence in it. He was generally disorganized (misplaced my paperwork over the course of my exam). I would go back to the practice but not to him.

Overall, it went great. He is a detail guy, so the big surgery lasted five hours, but I've had no problems since. Just don't expect to get in to see him easily; it could take months.

My husband sees Dr.

and has always had great things to say about him. I have to say, I was leery! His office is at the Lenscrafters at the Cambridgeside Galleria. I just couldn't imagine that I would find a great optometrist in the mall! I was wrong! Dr.

was professional. His equipment was very modern and it was the most thorough eye exam I have ever had. He answered all of my questions in knowledgeable detail. Although the Lencrafters is attached, he did not pressure me into purchasing from there, although I did. Overall, it was a surprisingly great experience and I will definitely go back.

I stopped into

Optical to look at glasses frames. While browsing, I was approached by Dolly, the manager, who turned out to be extremely friendly and helpful. She was equally happy to show me the cheap $50 frames and the more expensive ones. I was surprised to see such a large selection of moderately priced frames ($50 and $100). And the frames were perfectly nice looking, with wire rims in normal colors. Together we picked out two that we liked - and I actually wound up buying one of the $50 pairs because I liked it best.

was having some sort of sale, so I got the less expensive pair for free, so that was a nice perk. I also had to get an eye exam, and even though it was Saturday, they managed to squeeze me in at the end of the day. Dr. Baumal was very friendly, engaging and patient. He listened to my list of "wants" about contacts - breathability, longer lasting, etc. My glasses were ready the day after I ordered them and the contacts came into the store three days after that. Dolly helped me figure out whether I should have my insurance pay for my glasses or my contacts (it would only pay for one). We did the math together and I wound up getting two pairs of glasses, frames, non-scratch lenses, and a year's worth of contacts for $400. I am very happy with my contacts and my two pairs of glasses. I will continue to go to

I got stuck in traffic and arrived 15 minutes late. The office staff helped me with driving directions and was gracious about seeing me anyway.

Andrejko, an optometrist, was very thorough and competent. She explained what she was doing as she went along and left plenty of time for questions. She promptly mailed a letter summarizing the visit to my primary care provider.
