Furniture protection plan declines recliner repair

COMPLAINT: Charles Fallon, Reading, Mass.

"I purchased a five-year protection plan from Guardsman, a division of Valspar, Mass., for my La-Z-Boy furniture. I noticed a streak of white on the armrest and called them. They came out [to look at the furniture] and told me they couldn't do anything because it was general wear and tear that wasn't covered by the plan."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like to have the armrest repaired and a $270 rebate for the protection plan."

COMPANY RESPONSE: Pamela Spaude, Valspar paralegal

"Our documentation indicates the member reported a stain on the arm of the love seat and reported no known accident that caused the damage.

"A technician was dispatched to the member's residence and reported no stains, but said the leather was peeling off in several areas. Guardsman denied the claim because the damage isn't covered under the protection plan."

STATUS: Resolved

Editor's note: The member informed Angie's List that he received a reimbursement for the protection plan and considers the matter resolved.
