"It went terribly. After blowing the original requested schedule because he didn't reply to requests for additional specificity in a timely fashion, we signed a contract for a later date and gave him a $10,000 deposit. We subsequently learned that despite his having assured us that he was experienced with working in high-rise buildings in Boston, he was woefully unprepared to provide the standard documentation required by the condo association covenants. He provided some of the documents, but kept giving us excuses for failing to deliver one that required a state permit (I don't know which). He kept complaining about the slowness of the state...this dragged on for a couple of months.
During this period, he became increasingly unresponsive. When we were able to finally get a response, he was always very courteous and portrayed himself as beleaguered. After much frustration in attempting to communicate with him and several "check-in" deadlines which he ignored (I had asked for status reports on a regular basis so that we could get a sense of the timing. This was particularly important as the work required that we spend several nights elsewhere, and we were trying to manage that process), we decided that we had had enough and told him that since he hadn't honored the contract (which called for a specific start date, long since past) we wanted our deposit back.
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
played the victim, claiming that he had bought "custom materials" for our job. I never believed this - the materials weren't especially special - but acceded to his request that we give him several weeks to come up with the money. This time came and went, and after another bout of difficulty in getting in touch with him, he offered to pay $5,000 (1/2 of the sum) immediately and the rest "when he could." He sent the first check some time late (It was at least 3 weeks, as the payment was due on the first of April and I left the country in the middle of the month...the check arrived while I was gone). That check was good, but then...more silence.
He eventually promised to drop a check for the remaining amount off at our house by June 1. He did make a dropoff, but it was two checks - one dated June 9 and the other dated June 16. We deposited the first check on June 9, but today (June 12) my wife received a call from him in which he said that that check had bounced. Obviously, we have no reason to believe that the 2nd one will be negotiable. I am today filing a claim in Small Claims court to chase him for the money. I am also going to look into criminal charges...to the best of my knowledge passing bad checks is still a crime in Massachusetts.
I would NEVER recommend this guy...he comes across as well-meaning in conversation, and talks a good game with regard to materials, etc. But none of his assurances come to path. He's irresponsible at best, but he also seems to be somewhat sociopathic...he has demonstrated absolutely no ability to keep his word, and has consistently ducked the situation and left us feeling anxious and disregarded.

"The first impression was good. She was friendly and polite. But then their idea of design was abysmal. I was looking for ideas on how to utilizes a corner cabinet. She suggested moving the sink in the corner, (really ugly option). But then didn't really care to discuss any other options with me. I'm not a slumlord looking to fix a rental. When I went to visit the show room she gave me nothing but attitude. I was told I would get an estimate and all she sent me was the cost of the cabinets. Then she asked me if I wanted to schedule the install. Ummm. It's like she forgot that I was still evaluating their services, and waiting for other quotes. If this is how I get treated before I have accepted the proposal then how will they treat me if I had accepted their proposal. Based on her attitude and her unwillingness to work with me on the design, I decided to pass."

"We heard about
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
through a neighbor. They hired him to remodel a bedroom closet and a coat closet. The work wasn't great, but it was a closet and they had requested a low-cost solution. In all fairness, they got what they paid for.
We were sorely in need of storage in our unit, so I asked them if they thought he had the skill to handle larger projects and remodeling. They said they had seen some work he did across the street and that it was "amazing" "really beautiful" "very high quality." Plus, I could see their built-ins and kitchen through their window and it did look great.

When I met
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
I liked him immediately. He was confident, apparently knowledgable, and said he could do anything we wanted and at any level of quality. He promised the moon and made sure he let me know how much his faith means to him. And, what can I say? After that conversation he had my full trust. In fact, it is
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
's ability to instill trust in his clients and his general likeability that make people forgive his transgressions again and again. Disappointment is a tough pill to swallow, especially in someone you believe in.

What were
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
's transgressions and flaws? Let me give you a rundown. This is only a partial list:

-His workers are, for the most part, unskilled, and unsupervised.
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
has one skilled painter, but unfortunately, he is never able to see a job through from beginning to end because has too many projects at once.
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
should have this guy train and supervise all paint jobs, but instead the guys fly from project to project not really knowing what they are doing and, I got the impression, to busy to keep track of what they are doing.
-They don't clean up their messes.
-They don't use drop cloths or make any effort to protect your belongings. They damaged our bed, left paint splatter on our belongings, left a smudge of wood putty on a vintage dress my daughter has not yet had a
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
to wear, and left our clothes covered in drywall dust after failing to remove them the closet they were working on.
-They are great at starting, but lousy at seeing a project through to completion in a timely manner. We would be told work would begin on Monday, the guy would show up, stay for an hour and then get called away to another job, not to return for days or weeks.
-
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
doesn't take notes after the initial drawing up of the contract. So, he will agree to do this or that, and then forget about it.
-They use plywood instead of solid wood, though in your contract it states simply that he uses "wood."
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
will tell you that everything is made of plywood nowadays. That is not true. We commissioned a built-in in our master bedroom, which was supposed to look like a piece of furniture. They constructed it completely of plywood and it looks like it is constructed of plywood.
-They use cheap materials, regardless of how much you pay them.
-They are not skilled painters. They do not smooth, repair, or clear walls of nails or tape or other foreign objects before painting them. They don't use painter's tape, so the lines between ceiling and wall are squiggly. I can still see shadows of the old paint on our ceiling. I requested another coat. They agreed, but never followed up.
-They did a sloppy job closing up our walls after doing electrical work and the scars and imperfections are still visible.
-Every concession they make for you, even when it comes to fixing their screw-ups, will be dredged up and rubbed in your face at every opportunity.
-
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
will tell you that he has never heard such complaints from any of his other clients. It isn't him, it's you.
-I have spoken to some of his other clients and trust me, it isn't just you.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg. It was all far, far worse than it sounds.

In short, we paid $9,000 for two plywood built-ins, some minor electrical work, the painting of two small rooms. The work was consistently sloppy, unprofessional and riddled with delays. Our belongings and our premises were damaged in the process. The project remains unfinished.

DO USE ANGIE'S LIST TO FIND A COMPETENT CONTRACTOR.

DO NOT PAY FOR THE WHOLE JOB IN ADVANCE. PAY SMALL INCREMENTS IN ADVANCE.

"Mr.
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
was invested a great deal of time up front in the design and research of the solution. Ultimately, a very clever system of 8 ft tall pocket doors create a gracious division of space with 12 foot ceiling heights. Everyday of the construction, the AJC crew cleaned up down to swiffering the floors. The construction period lasted exactly as forecast and the finish was spectacular. We are very very particular about home construction and decor and wow."

"During the construction process, D&E's owner Ergun, was responsive to all of our inquiries and concerns. He always kept us in the loop!

Once the demolition began, they found a few problems within the structure of the house that needed to be addressed. They displayed knowledge and competency in handling these challenges at a fair cost to us and in a timely manner.

We highly recommend D&E, have passed their information on to friends, and have recently signed a new contract with them to have our garage rebuilt! We are very happy with our home improvements and everyone who comes to our house comments on the quality of the work.

"We were referred to
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
and
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
by a friend, and it turned out to be a very helpful recommendation. I gave
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
a call on a Friday to discuss our potential project and he was able to come meet at my apartment in Boston that Monday, after our meeting he was able to provide a written quote and sketch of the project in 2 days. During our meeting
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
showed a great design eye and asked several questions on the goals of our project, as I gave him more information I learned that
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
also does TV and Audio installations so instead of having to use someone else to coordinate and install a TV/Audio with cabinets we ended up using
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
for the entire process. One really interesting idea
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
had in designing our project was because of the height of our mantle the TV was already at a point where we preferred it not to be any higher but thought a soundbar would be the best option for the sound component.
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
came up with the great idea of building the speakers into the fireplace and thus saving space and making for an even cleaner look. In addition
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
was very cost conscious he provided a list and his cost of different electronic components we would need and then gave us the option that he could provide or if I could find them cheaper we could just buy them ourselves. So I was able to buy most components on amazon myself for lower cost and save money along the way. Installation--
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
had budgeted 4 days to install the project and was able to finish in 3. I highly recommend both him and
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
. See the results for yourself in the picture below.

"BEWARE!!!! I contracted with
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
to fabricate new doors and it was a total disaster. By far THE WORST CONTRACTOR I've ever dealt with. The owner,
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
, does not listen, does not take direction, and is a total nighmare to deal with. I quickly realized he could not do the job nor would he be able to coordinate with other contractors working on other pieces of the renovation. First, I made the mistake of contracting with him before checking references or Angie's List. After dealing with him for a week or so I became concerned about his behavior so I personally went to one of his references from Commonwealth Avenue who gave me an earful about the poor quality of the doors and the problems in dealing with him. I was personally shown where pieces of molding were pulling away from the doors as well as the shoddy installation work (and he used them as a reference!). When I confronted
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
he became very defensive and blamed the home owner for the problems, which I found to be his typical mode of behavior. That was just the beginning of my problems. After giving him a consideable downpayment I had a series of very disturbing encouters with him (he's always looking for more money and will show up at your home unannounced looking for it) and decided to cut my loses and canceled the contract. We ended-up in court and I subsequently learned that I was not the only one who ended-up in court with this guy. Apparently he's a regular at small claims court in
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
. I eventually got the work done with another door fabricator and I am very happy with the results but don't make the same mistake I did. This guy is bad news despite his pretty website and ads in the Back Bay newspaper. Also note, according to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' website he is no longer licensed as of 3/4/2011. That should tell you something about how he runs his business. I joined Angie's List just to let people know how truly bad this guy is and to save someone else the aggravation, wasted time, and lost money I had to endure dealing with this nightmare of a contractor. Home remodeling is challenging enough without the added pain you will endure with
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
and
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked

"I learned of
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
from another well-thought-of woodworker.
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
is an all-around top quality guy. Great ethics, great personal skills, great woodworking and general contracting skills.
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
is my go-to guy when anything goes wrong, or needs work, at my place. If
Boston Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
says he doesn't feel comfortable doing a particular type of job, he says so, and is willing to help me find someone else to help (for example, he told me he didn't feel comfortable doing roofing). If he says he can do a job, he is able to schedule a time in the future to do the job and I can trust him to be there when that time comes, and finish the job in the allotted time. Plus, I feel safe leaving him & his co-workers around with my wife and 8 year old daughter. "
