As stated above, it can vary between companies.
Typically just an inspection implies you do not have a contract or agreement that may include discounts or free repairs.
With our company you would get the annual maintenace service that you should do every year, and if repairs are needed, they are extra, but you aviod paying a "service call charge" that would be related to most repairs, because you are paying for the "inspection" and we are already on site.
Inspections are often discounted in the slow seasons, and can usually be found advertised , at reduced prices , on Angie's List.
So consider Angie's List and find the best of the best in HVAC contractors!
I have never seen one of this type that does not exit the house. You would not want the grease dumping into your basement, even with a filter it will happen.
The greater part of your job will be carpentry as if there is a wall behind the stove a hole will have to be cut up through the basement into the wall up to the stove. Unless it is one of the stoves that allows for it to fit inside a cabinet below. To answer correctly most here would be a picture of where this project is being done. I have done motorized ones that extend up out of the counter when in use and then retract. Those exit through the cabinet and require the cook top is to the front of the counter and not a drop in one
As an added note these tend to be better as they do not pull the heat away from the stove top when in use as much as the ones flush with the stove. I have install quite a few and happen to have an Amana cook top with built in down draft and I have to shut it of to get water to boil on the back burners.
A carpenter will know what can be cut and what not in the basement, a sheet metal contractor should know as well but at the other end for the finish by the stove they might not. Most carpenters that do kitchens have installed the minimal amount of duct work for this. They just have to be carefull with the number of ellbows and the lenght of the duct.

later, I called the company and finally received a call from the repairman the
next day. He told me that the circuit boards were back ordered from Maytag and
he would try to get one locally, but it may take until late March or early
April to get a circuit board.
I called a few local appliance repair shops, not from Angie’s
list, and both had the correct circuit board in staock. Plus I found four
distributors on the internet that had the circuit board in stock. I made an
appointment with one of the non Angies list repair shops. The gentleman came
over the next day, installed the new circuit board. The dryer works fine now.
my appointment because nobody ever contacted me. The dispatcher said that she
did call me. I checked both my cell phone and my home phone and there were
no messages left for me.
work on their communication issues. As someone stated in another review, they
were prompt to respond on the first call but are lacking in follow up. If they
have a dispatcher or an office person, it should not be that difficult to call
customers back with a status. And If I can find a part on the internet, why can’t
I had a horrendous experience with them last week.
They gave me a 3 hour window to wait for them last Wednesday, between 11am and
2pm. So I arranged my schedule to be home for 3 hours in the middle of the
day. No problem, it was worth it to me to get the dishwasher
I spoke to the dispatcher at length and gave him my
name and address, and the make and model of my dishwasher, and I told him what I
needed. I bought the appliances from them, and they installed my refrigerator,
dishwasher, microwave and my oven. They also sent a repair person earlier this
year to my home to replace the igniter on my oven. They had me in their
system! Despite all of this, the dispatcher gave the repair person an address
in Roslindale that does not even exist. I live in West
twice before to deliver and install my appliances and to make a repair earlier
The repairman called me at home and I have him my
correct address. He came by at five minutes to 2pm, and after 5 minutes he told
me I needed a spring on the dishwasher door. I knew this already. He said he
would have to order the part, and I would have to block off yet again a 3 hour
window to wait for them. He said the dispatcher did not tell him what was wrong
with my dishwasher.
At this point I got on the phone with the
dispatcher and he claimed that I gave him the wrong address and my phone did not
work (the same phone I was calling him on and the one his dispatcher called me
on twice that day)! Then he started calling me "sweetie", "honey" and "little
lady"! At that point I used some choice words and hung up on him. I was
The repairman said he would have the owner call
me. He told me that the dispatcher had "problems". This was last week, and I
still have not heard from the owner. No apology for getting my address wrong,
my phone number wrong, not sending the repairman with the correct part in the
first place, and for his dispatcher talking to me in a patronizing manner (after
we spent over $10,000 with them on appliances for our kitchen over 10 years
ago)! To add insult to injury, when I called the dispatcher, he had the wrong
make and model noted for my dishwasher (the one they had sold me and installed -
incorrectly, for me in the first place).
Needless to say, I am done with them. I am a very
reasonable woman, and as a small business owner I understand the need for good
customer service. They are terrible!
