"They definitely overcharged me for the work. I ended up having some other people come in and found out their price was pretty bloated. The guy was professional, he wasn't sloppy or crazy looking or anything. The price was crappy, they charged an arm and a leg and they were definitely recommending things I didn't need. "

Does a leaking water heater violate code?

Anytime a contractor tells you that you have a code violation, seek the opinion of at least two more reputable professionals in your area to help make sure what you’re being told is legitimate. When in doubt, contact your local code enforcement agency. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Michael K.)

Dear Angie: My water heater is leaking. The plumber I hired said it would cost $150 for a water heater code violation. Do you know what he is talking about? Is there such a thing? – G.C., Columbia, S.C.

Temperature relief valves critical to water heater safety

A T&P relief valve is a two-in-one safety device, which, as its name implies, responds to both excessive temperature and to excessive pressure in a water heater. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Robert B.)

Water heaters have many critical components, but none are more critical than the temperature relief valve. Learn how to make sure that your both T&P valve and thermal expansion tank are both working properly

The benefits of solar hot water heating systems

How much should water heater installation cost?

The cost for a professional water heater depends on more than just the unit itself - meeting current plumbing codes, and ensuring safety and proper installation are important factors, too. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Michael K.)

Baltimore Water Heater Installers Reviews

"It went well. They did it in a day and a half. We did not go without heat. They came in right before Christmas. They gave us discounts and information that we needed to file our rebates. We had alot of questions about energy efficiency and maintainenance and they provided all of the information that we needed to decide. We dealt with alot of differnet representatives (salesmen, technical and service) and they all worked well together to get the job done. "

"We had an old gas furnace that was in a large closet on the first floor. The furnace was loud, inefficient and taking up space, so we wanted a new one, and we wanted it to be installed in the basement. When
Baltimore Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
came for the estimate, he noticed that our water heater was not vented correctly into the chimney. The next week, when they came to do the work, the installed a flue/liner to correctly vent the water heater; put a new heat pump in the basement/on the roof; rerouted some ducts; and removed the old furnace."

"We have been very pleased with their work. We signed them up for regular maintenance. They are small and very service oriented. Their staff in the back office is terrific in terms of getting things scheduled and handled. We first used them when our boiler cracked down on us in the middle of winter. It was cold, and we started calling around trying to find somebody come out and take a look at it and fix it. They were the only ones to come out that night. They were there within an hour, and the guy who came out was terrific."

"This price includes the parts and labor. I am satisfied with the work. They called me back that day. They are reliable. I would use them again in the future."

"Although we thought the price was a little on the high side, they made up for it in service and responsiveness. I was very surprised that the serviceman's truck was stocked with all the parts he needed and after looking at the heater, he was able to fix it immediately. Our serviceman was very professional and personable. We would definitely call them again."

"Excellent workmanship, top-quality materials. Arrived punctually, worked efficiently. Was very friendly, and when I asked about a clogged sewer air vent, he suggested a do-it-yourself fix instead of suggesting he do it."

"The plumber who repaired the toilet and replaced the water heater worked as though he knew what he was doing. He told me that he had started working for

about two weeks prior to his visit to my home. At any rate, the toilet is fine. With regard to the water heater, he used my washing machine rubber pipe to take the water out of the heater before he removed the heater. After he was done, he forgot to re-hook the water hose into the wall. When I did a wash that evening, the water came gushing out of the water rubber hose and went all over the floor. When the washing machine overflowed, I didn't realize at first where the water was coming from, so most of the water ended up on the floor. Luckily, I was home so I finally just stopped the machine and luckily no water got onto the wooden floor in the rest of my small apartment. When I called the company to report the problem, someone who lived on the West Coast (

She asked me what I wanted and I told her that I would like to hear from the company that evening just to understand better what happened and when someone could come and fix it. I asked for someone really experienced to come out. I was really upset. No one called until the next day. The message left with the company was that something was wrong with my washing machine!! That morning, the owner of the company came out to check out what happened and very easily put back the water hose into its proper place in the wall. Another thing that happened, was that in soldering pieces of new piping for the water heater into place, the plumber inadvertently set off the smoke detector, and had to remove the bottom part to stop the noise. After he was done and was ready to leave, I asked him to put the bottom of the smoke detector back up, which he did gladly. The owner was great. I politely told him how to spruce up the performance of the particular employee who replaced my heater. My suggestions for the employee were that if anything was undone (the smoke detector) it should be fixed without me asking. I also suggested that for the kind of service that people would always call back for more jobs, the employee should have taken a mop and mopped out where the old heater had been, since it is rare that this area would ever be available to do a real good cleanup job(I did the cleanup myself in between heaters). With regard to cost, I asked the employee to check with the company about the price and he said it was about $700. I forgot to ask about any price breaks based on Angie's List. The price for the water heater was $744.26. The next day, I asked the owner about the Angie's List discount or coupon and he said I should have asked at the time the work was done, and that he would check to see if I got it, but that it sounded like I got the discount. I never heard from anyone again about the price and any Angie's List discount.

provided a free estimate for the work described above.

was the estimator and supervisor of the project. I had many questions for

and he gladly researched and answered all of them.

and his team were very professional, punctual and pleasant. Due to the cumbersome weight/size of my old boiler, the project took one day longer than expected. The team of workers laid down protective plastic over floors and furniture and cleaned up the work area nicely. Though the work took longer than expected, it was still completed in a very reasonable amount of time. When the work was complete, two of the men demonstrated how to work the programmable thermostat. They also demonstrated how all the dials and buttons on the boiler and water heater worked. I am extremely pleased with the job they've done. It's great to deal with such a customer service oriented company- and they were the cheapest of the 6 estimates that I received!"
