BTW I learned that 
Bros is a family-owned business that
does residential but... mainly commercial work.
.
Hindsight:
- the material Bros advised me to use turned out to be
an industry-recognized very good quality material
- but the metal-roofing material I initially wanted to use
was NOT wrong for this area & would've been even better in several ways
- the job estimate provided was too limited or scarce on exact details regarding
MATERIALS _and_ HOW the work was to be done
- no supervisor or manager was present throughout installation
- the problems were not related to the roofing material;
- the problems were the result of poor and improper workmanship

Problems :
There were multiple problems both with getting the job done _AND_ with the finished product !!
For me to fully describe the varied problems would exceed the space allotted here.
Some examples:
- failure to fully remove ALL of the old roofing
- use of substandard nails to adequately attach roofing to firm structure blow
- some bulging or buckling of roof already evident
- shingle alignment & spacing not to manufacturers spec's
- incorrect/improper flashing on chimneys, not "stepped"
- some gutters or downspouts were not reattached or were attached incorrectly
Result :
- the "new" 50 year roof leaked less than 3 years following installation
- this caused over $10,000 damage inside to ceilings, walls & personal property
Worse Still :
- Bros sent repeated & increasingly hostile invoices for the unpaid balance but ....
.... was unresponsive to my repeated requests (phone & letters) to correct problems.
They did not even acknowledge my reporting of the problems until forced to.
And then, they attributed the problems to causes other than their work.

I truly DID want to resolve the issues jointly & cooperatively
NOT adversarially or with complaints & litigation.
I had the roof looked at by at least two other roofing companies.
Each pointed out several problems.
I sent pictures to the manufacturer of the tiles. They said roof not installed as to spec.

However, refused to even acknowledge ANY problem in the job they'd done...
.... much less remedy it.
Regretfully, I was forced to file a complaint with the MD Home Improvement Commission __AND__
... to hire an attorney, and eventually to actually file suit against the company.

Well..... now the lawyers and 's insurance company are involved.
What should be an "open & shut" case gets turned into arguability, nitpicking & denials.
Long delays. Depositions. Escalating costs.
Meanwhile my roof still leaks. More escalating costs.
And ultimately (of course) ... comes a "low-ball" settlement offer by 's insur. co.
calculated to placate me into minimizing my loses
and scare me into not taking the risk (and added expense) of a long costly trial.

I was worn down and too fearful to risk additional expenses and possible further loss.
I accepted a settlement that covered the "inside damages"
and PART OF my legal expenses which to that point were about $8000.

Outcome:
EXTREMELY NEGATIVE & UNFAIR

"I was selling my house and needed some minor repairs as a requirement for sale. Of the 5 companies I contacted only 3
responded, Columbia Roofing wanted $350 just to show up (plus the actual repairs-estimated at $50 to $150), the other took over a week just to call me back. went to the house and estimated the work at $250 for the actual repairs listed as "required." After I waited a couple days for other roofers to respond my real estate agent told me I'd need a 1 year certification on top of the repairs. When I told this he said that he'd need to do a couple extra things to provide the certification and that with the certification and all the repairs it would be $350. I had no doubts he was being a straight shooter with me and the extra $100 for the certification was in line with what my real estate agent had stated. He performed the work within a few days and got me the necessary paperwork for settlement. All in all; a very responsive and great person to deal with. I would use him again without a second thought."

"I scheduled the first appointment of the day (8am) so that I could get to a meeting on time. The service person called me at the time he was supposed to be here to say that he would be 20 minutes late because he decided to run an errand first. He was 45 minutes late. The necessary repairs were evaluated and I was told I would received a call with the estimate later that day or the next day. But no one ever called. I called them and finally got a response the following week. They could not get the parts, so they could not do the work. Also, when the service person arrived, he expected to do the work and was surprised to hear that I was waiting on another estimate. I thought that was odd since this company advertises free estimates. What's wrong with due diligence?"

"I spent approx. 1 year looking for a company to install an EPDM flat roof membrane system on my old (100+ year-old) townhouse. I met with over 6 different companies. The majority provided quotes that were outrageous and/or opened the conversation about the roof with manipulative tactics. was recommended to me by a neighbor who used them many years ago on his flat roof. I met with and received a detailed proposal. They were professional in working out the details clarifying the proposal. They had no problem providing a certificate of insurance. I recall their price for replacement wood (i.e. plywood or planking) was the lowest of all quotes I received. The crew arrived each morning around 7:45am and they were well underway by 8:00am. The critical work of getting the old roof removed and the new roof installed took about 2 days. The skylights were custom made in the company's shop and look and perfom great. honored the proposal from start to finish."

"We talked to this business at the MD Home & Garden show and they said in addition to roofing they did patios, fencing, etc. We told the rep we were looking to have a 60 foot section of privacy fencing replaced as well as repair of posts and rails on the split rail portion of the fence (1 acre of property). The rep assured us the did this work and would call to set up an appointment for an estimate. A week later someone called and we set up an appointment for Thursday, 3/23/11 at 4:00 pm for an estimate. By 5:00 pm no one showed up or called. us. We called the company and were told they may still show up or they would have someone call us. At 6 pm "Nick" called asking what we wanted and I explained. I was then told they did not want to do small jobs like this and were concentrating on roofing.
I wish the rep at the Home & Garden show would have known this and the person who scheduled the appointment would have told us this as well. We wasted an afternoon waiting around for this company who never showed. Very unprofessional."

"Very smoothly; crew members were pleasant, hard working, and excellent craftsman. Mr. was prompt, efficient and kept to schedule. He was quick to find effective solutions to the unexpected problems. He came out immediately to evaluate a problem with ice damming that developed in the most recent snow storm. He explained how to avoid the problem in the future. He is a polite, pleasant and thoughtful man."

"We have not made any decisions yet. had one of the highest estimates. Our housing inspector had come up with a much lower count of slates that needed to be replaced, as did another roofer who actually climbed onto the roof. This estimator didn't climb on the roof, but he took photographs and talked with me about what needed to be done. He was friendly and personable. He seemed very knowledgeable. The price struck us as a little high."

"Everything went as explained and promised, no surprises. When the crew finished the job, I did not like how the back yard was cleaned up, he send someone to correct the situation the second day. Couple months later in January, the tenant who lived in the house complained about front porch gutter overflow whenever rains causing icy condition on the front porch steps right under it. I called once; his crew went over right away. They addressed my tenant's concern, and re-adjust the gutter and downspout at front. The whole process was handled very professional. My tenant was very impressed and satisfied with the result. I was very happy too with the fact of only one phone call did all the work. Since then, I have purchased many more rental properties, and did all the roof work on them. I did shop around at the beginning; however, 's price always come back either very similar to other middle-price ranged roofers out there. Because I already had a positive experience with before, I felt do need to try out another roofer. Their service has been consistent, and if I do have any problems, all I had to do is call. They always come back honor their warranty."

"There were a couple instances that we had to reschedule parts of the job, but these were few and far between. For a large part of the job his team was comfortable working on the roof by accessing it from the street 4 stories below. They were always very kind, courteous, and appreciative that I picked them for the job. Coming from the midwest, I expect that at home but rarely find it on the east coast."

"I called Roofing in the middle of a rainstorm when I found a leak in the my kids' bedroom - after leaving a message on the answering service, called me himself, ten minutes later, at 8pm on a Friday. He showed up the next day, did a quick patch, gave an estimate, and a day later, his team was on my roof. They were polite, communicative, efficient, and stayed late to get the work done before another rainstorm came through - and after the next two storms, again called to check in and make sure that the roof was fine. The really nice thing was that the team took me on the roof and explained everything that was wrong - they showed me how a roof leaks, where it comes from, how the new roof would address the problems, and so forth. I know more about a flat roof than I ever thought I could. I never thought of a roof as being beautiful but I was stunned when I went up there after the work was done. He also wrote a nice, long guarantee on the work. I've worked with a lot of different contractors in the course of owning my home and of them all, Roofing was the most responsive, communicative, and trustworthy. I wish I knew about them sooner! I see from the website that they also do interior work now and I guarantee I will be calling them the next time I have a large project inside the house. Highest possible recommendation for this company. Oh, almost forgot - they cleaned really well, too. Swept the walks and cleaned the yard when they were done - no debris at all anywhere. You'd never have known that someone had done a huge piece of messy work."
