"I bought a home that is just over four years old and was built by Lennar Baltimore. Three weeks ago, four shingles blew off the roof, which caused a leak.

"I tried to get coverage from the warranty company Lennar provides with their homes, but I was told it wasn't a structural issue and I'd have to handle it myself.

"I hired a reputable roofer who after making the repair explained it would happen again because the roof is poorly built from bulging plywood that caused the shingles to lift and then blow off.

"This was negligence and poor quality control on the builder's part. They refuse to accept responsibility and make it right, and they won't return my e-mails and calls."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like the builder to repair the flawed plywood."

COMPLAINT: Brian and Elisabeth Green, Baltimore
"We hired PG Enterprises to put a new rubber roof on our row house as well as replace the skylights. The crew completed the job in one day, with the exception of the skylights, which they had to special-order and would take three weeks to receive.

Six and a half months later, we still don't have new skylights."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "We'd like the company to install the two skylights."

COMPLAINT: Jenifer Shapiro, Rockville, Md.
"I hired Phillips Handyman Service to install a new door, molding, plaster and repaint the bathroom, and fix wood on my staircase. The quality of work they produced was by far the worst I've ever seen.

During the job, Ed [Phillips, the owner] broke my $250 vessel sink in my bathroom because he didn't put a protective covering down. The door he installed was damaged, chipped and gouged.

The areas in my master bath he was supposed to smooth out by sanding and repainting are as bumpy as ever and the paint job that he did was laughable.

I have yet to figure out how my entire bathroom is now a completely different color. I think he must have used the wrong color for the touch-ups and was forced to paint the entire room [the same color]."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'm prepared to offer Ed Phillips only payment to cover the expense of the materials. I want a credit for the labor charge."

"[The member's] complaints came after the projects were finished and the invoice was sent. I wasn't permitted to see what the customer was complaining about nor given any opportunity to rectify the issues.

I've built a solid reputation for quality, professionalism and integrity, which has led to great referrals and repeat business.

I would've gladly worked with this customer to achieve her expected results if I had been given the opportunity."
