Austin homeowners summer project checklist

It can be hard to know what to look for when thinking about home repairs. Austin handyman Paul Carapetyan of Expert Service Inc. was able to provide Angie’s List with a few tips of his own for homeowners:

  1. Take a walk around your house exterior this summer. It's a good thing to do once a quarter. Look for your AC back-up drain. It's often located over a porch or window where you'll see it when your AC is malfunctioning. When the back-up drain is running, you'll see dripping that you don't normally see. Tend to this at once as damage can quickly ensue if your AC is not tended to.
  2. Have a look for any signs that your roof, flashing or siding is compromised following spring winds and rains. Untended small leaks can cause big damage. Sometimes the fix is simple and inexpensive if caught in time.
  3. Be sure your sprinklers are not spraying the house. The only thing that will grow when you sprinkle your house is mold, mildew and rot.
  4. Summer heat can break open caulk and sealant joints. These things can be repaired with ease if they're detected in time. Look for cracks and gaps between dissimilar materials like windows, stone, brick, concrete, siding and roofing.
