B
"The main attraction of Gold's for me was the price, the numerous locations, decent equipment and the (believe it or not) non-pretentious attitude. This particular" Gold's (located on 183 close to MoPAC) is an older facility that has been updated. While the building itself is old and doesn't have much to be desired, it is very spacious, has the latest equipment and kept pretty clean. The staff is friendly and professional. Sometimes they are a little "less professional" late night, but that can be expected. They don't try to push their products on you, however if you are interested in personal training, there is usually someone there. They do not provide towels, like other places, but then again, they are 1/4 the price of some of those other gyms. This particular facility has a small lap-pool and sauna. There is a large cadrio and area with a lot of machines - enough even during the 5-6pm "rush hour". There are many weight machines and a special room for free weights. Lots of TVs around the facility, but the music/sound isn't too loud so if you have your own music you don't get bothered by what's playing on the speakers. I find that the majority of the members and staff are very nice and down-to-earth and the majority try to be courteous and clean after themselves.

"I will start at the end and then give some more detail. When I canceled my membership the male staffer told me, and I quote, “I hope the " at your next gym are OFF the HOOK!” In short, if you enjoy being promised things that will not be provided, being spoken down to, patronized, and paying for this delightful type of service then join Lifetime. I have to say I recommended this gym all the time for a good bit of time. Walking in this gym seems fabulous, especially compared to many of the other gyms in town. Two pools inside one with slides and the other a lap pool, and an outdoor pool with slides. Hot tubs inside and out, wet and dry in the locker rooms, swimsuit ringer, towels, everything on the surface appears in good working order and clean, and so on, but the shininess will wear off.! When something first breaks you tend to overlook it because it seems that everything is so nice and the staff so cheerfully apologizes and promises the issue/item will be fixed/corrected. Then the next thing happens and the next thing and the next thing and the first thing has still not been fixed. So what was broken, to start the women’s dry sauna stayed in a completely broken state or half broken state for most of the over 3 years I was a member. First it started off with walking in and the women’s dry sauna was temped at best. The attendant would come in and reset the heater, but that does little good when you have 1 hour for your work out since it takes a while for the heater to get the sauna to the correct temperature. The front desk would always claim they were unaware, but after you start talking to people it becomes clear that other people were also complaining only to be given the same song and dance. The heater issue was on and off starting after month 1 of my membership and the issues lasted about 3 months initially. There was about a solid month where all seemed good with the women’s dry sauna, but the swimsuit ringer started to smell and was periodically broken throughout the summer, some shower drains intermittently stopped- up on a regular basis, towels constantly out, no eucalyptus in the wet sauna and when it was it was so strong that it would make your eyes water. Then about month 5 the hinge on the women’s dry sauna door broke and the heater once again started being off intermittently. It took a solid 6, yes SIX, months for the door hinged to be fixed. No one was bright enough to figure out that the hinge needed to be on the outside of the door vs inside………….how long has Lifetime had gyms? Then there is getting kicked out of your swim lane for a swim lesson. It was not at all uncommon for Lifetime to take up 3 of the 5 with swim lessons between 4 – 7 in the evening; it would not be uncommon at times to have to wait an hour or longer for a lane. Also, if you happened to have a lane there was no polite request to move for a lesson, basically get out of the lane now. Now keep in mind kids are added for $5 bucks extra a month which means every single person without kids is subsidizing all memberships for the kids and then we are rudely kicked out of . If Lifetime is losing money on the childcare center which is free every single day for 2 hours; guess what, raise the price of adding all the kids from $5 a month to something more realistic and stop pushing the swim lessons! The flip is losing childless members that make the $5 kid price viable! Childless members also have far more disposable income so if the point is to make money pushing the kid stuff it is going to do exactly the opposite by losing the people that subsidize those kid memberships. Then there was the bright idea to switch the men’s’ and women’s locker rooms while the carpet was removed and the tile was laid. Well to say I realized why the guys do not use the locker room or use the men’s dry sauna is an understatement. The nastiness of only goodness knows what in the men’s dry sauna was all the way from the tile to the top of the wood slats, ~ 2 inches. Scum in thick layers in the men’s’ wet sauna and from talking to people the men’s facilities themselves were so during the first couple days of the switch that people flat walked out. All the women heard in the common areas how shockingly clean the women’s side was, but somehow staff NEVER heard any of this. I can tell you they did, but they choose to ignore it. Fast forward a few months and the guys were once again complaining about the filth and I stopped going. I figured it had to be an aberration, but I went back a few months later only to find the dry sauna still broken, at which point enough was enough. Lifetime is at least 3 times the cost of Gold’s and other gyms; at $25 a month I do not expect everything to be squeaky clean or even working all the time, but at 3 times the cost I do expect all the amenities to be working order at all times or with little to no downtime. More importantly I do not expect any snootiness or denials over things being broken that I know I have personally reported multiple times and put in corporate surveys. I certainly do not expect to be belittled! The male staff at Lifetime is so unbelievably arrogant that they actually believe that if they tell a woman that she is wrong and that nothing has ever been broken that she will believe it. That if they act as if it is no big deal an amenity is not available that she will mindlessly think it is not an issue after all and that she is in the wrong for complaining. Hint, women can read and vote, they even let us into college now days; not that any male Lifetime staffer has ever stepped foot on a college campus, I honestly wonder if they even managed to make it out of high school.

I would recommend them. They have good hours. They have the ability to go off hours if I wish. They have a nice offering of classes. The staff is very knowledgeable. The facility is attractive. The machinery is kept in good repair and it is clean. The staff is very friendly and very professional. The hours are very convenient for me.

It’s an incredible asset to the community. It supports a lot of Jewish families, it has a synagogue, and it is also open for membership to the public. It’s excellent, it’s clean, they have personal trainers there, the whole works, and it’s very, very good.

Fitness establishments should make a flat per-visit charge, and should be prohibited from keeping large staffs whose purpose is to sell "memberships." However, this complaint is applicable to the industry as a whole rather than this particular gym.

I have been a member with them for thirteen years. I stopped going to them because I did not like that the equipment was packed tightly together. I several times I got caught between the equipments. The other thing that I did not like is their pricing. They raised their pricing three times within year and half. My wife had been there more than ...More I had. Their price increase made her price increase by 80%.

It feels like a country club. It is a little more expensive than other gyms but they offer services that other gyms don't. Their policy is to meet you at the door with a towel. They have a smoothie bar. You can get help for anything.

My experience with has been great. They have various classes. They open until late in the night. I would use them in the future if I lived near them.

I recommend their classes. It is a clean fitness place. It is a real place to work out. The people who do the classes are just amazing. It is pretty intense. If you are at that level of fitness it is a good place to be in. It is super clean. I would not mind to take a shower there if I were to go somewhere else after the class. It is nice. ...More You pay for it. But it is not a 24 hour fitness place. For both of us it is $30 a month. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. Relatively to other gyms you probably get good value for your money.

It is really a nice place. It is a very open-air, bright and happy place. It has modern equipment. There seems to almost be an electricity in the air there and it is a very pleasant place to go. They are a little expensive. I go three times a week.
