kept switching around the time they were planning to come - first they had to postpone a few days, and then they called the day before the postponed date to" come that afternoon. It wasn't that convenient for me, but they were insistent it was more convenient for them. When the plumber got here he kept grumbling about what I was asking him to do, insisting that the jobs were too difficult - I had asked him to hook a water line up to the ice maker in the fridge and replace the fixtures in my bathtub that were leaking. The plumber said it would cost $600 to do the bathtub job and, when I questioned the enormity of that price, he said "we've been in business for 60 (?) years, and this is the fair price." I told him not to do the bathtub then and just do the ice maker, for which the price was still pretty high ($283). He then looked at the back of the fridge and said there was nowhere to install the water line, so he couldn't do the job. I got out the refrigerator manual to show him, because I had purchased the ice maker accessory that is made for that model of refrigerator, meaning that there had to be a way to hook up a water line to it - otherwise they would not make the accessory!!! He looked at the manual and then did his job and installed the water line. The next day I had another plumber from another company (who was GREAT) come and do the leaking tub fixture. He charged me $59.

No one can tell you what another contractor will charge. There is no one set price for heating and air-conditioning equipment installation. One of the major factors that affect your price is its size. No one can tell you what size equipment you’ll need without doing a load analysis on the home. That calculation essentially determines the insulation value of the home, i.e... What is the heat gain of the home, what are some other prevailing factors like room equipment, solar gain, or natural shading? You can compare prices between contractors to gauge what your cost would be between contractors, but this is a little tricky to do. Let me explain a little more. Let's say you get an installation quote of $5050.00 from contractor “A” who employs three technicians and operates two trucks. He also runs his operation from home. Contractor “B” charges $6200.00 to do the same job but has 10 employees and 5 trucks. He works out of a rental unit and offers his people a little bit better of a benefit package to recruit highly motivated workers. Everything else being equal (equipment size, SEER rating, furnace efficiency, brand name and additional material—other things that affect the price), is either one of these contractors defrauding you? No, their overhead is different. All these things play into a company’s labor rate. Just be aware of your expectations when it comes to performing any kind work in your home. If you want to pay an extremely low-inexpensive price below the average installation cost in your area then you are highly likely to get the quality of work that comes with that cost. Remember cheaper is not better!

?
Yes Jupiter. It depends on the severity of the situation, is the mold encapsulated in the insulation. If yes, than replace [insulation] it with new. Is it on the casing of the heater? If yes, clean it with a mold neutralizing metal cleaner. It's not a matter of finding something or someone to clean or address the existing mold. It's a matter of finding a contractor to rectify what is causing the mold grow. It's coming from excessive moisture in the air-handler unit. I can say with 100% surety you’re dealing with poor airflow and/or incorrect equipment sizing! Either issue will cause excessive icing of the evaporator coil, which leads to excessive condensate water in the system. The condensate will eventually overflow the drain pan leaving stagnant water in the air-handler housing, which leads to mold growth. I would not let any contractor do any kind of temporary repair, add any device like a UV light or air-cleaning product until the aforementioned is corrected. I talk a lot about this in my videos and on my website. It is the result of improper system design from unqualified contractors. There is a reason why some guys cost more than others, and this is one reason why!

The furnaces are both good. They come with the same warranty. More importantly it is the installation process that is most important. Both of these furnaces need to be setup properly as they both tend to be particular if installed incorrectly.

I will say that I am a York Certified comfort Expert. I have in the past been a Trane Dealer. I used to dislike York, but since Johnson Controls bought them, they have improved drastically. Since Ingersollrand bought Trane they have improved slightly, but I am not impressed.

The differences in both are as follows (these are both top of the line form theier manufacturers):

The Trane has a 95% Efficiency The York is 98% efficient.

The Trane has 2 stages of heating the York has 100 stages of heating.

Both systems have variable speed motors with different modes, Trane has Comfort R and York has ClimaTrak, both pretty much the same.  Setup of the dipswitches/jumpers are the most importnant and vary by system size and your climate.

The Trane has an external trap and is either upflow or downflow. The York is 4 way compatible with an internal trap.

The Trane has a nicer furnace cabinet, but most of the time the furnace is hidden and is irelevant.

Some Trane units are made in Monterey, Mexico. All York units are Made in Witchita, Kansas or Norman , Oklahoma. (some interanl components are made overseas in both units, but all Yorks are assembled in USA).

Depending on your installation companies relationship, then the support they get from the manufacturer differs. I have found that if you buy alot of Trane you get good service, if you do not, then service is not that great. The same may be said about York, but so far I have great support from York. York will work with the smaller companies more than Trane will (my opinion).  Again, I have sold, installed and repaired from both manufacturers so I have knowledge in both. I also used to dislike York. If you are in the trade, I invite you to look at the new York line of systems. You will may be impressed.

I think both products offer the best furnaces available, compared to other brands.  Depending on who installs it is most important as well as their relationship with the manufacturers.  Both good products.  I hope that helps.

The only thing of importance, is the hvac professional you choose to use. Alot of manufacturer's pieces are built relatively the same, and will last about the same amount of time. The thing that matters most is what you can not compare between companies, and that is the installation. Purchasing a system is not like purchasing a car, where no matter where you buy it, they are all the same. Each installation is different, and usually what you are paying for is the level of expertise, and quality of the installation, the company who will actual give you the warranty, and the comfort that you will receive. Manufacturers warranties disappear every day. They always have a loophole where they can get out of paying, but your local dealer wants to keep you happy for future work, and to protect his reputation in the communiy. Look up 4 year old Nordyne and Goodman warranty problems. Choose the HVAC professional first. It will cost you the least in the long run. I have had to totally redo plenty of installations that were just performed because of an uncomfortable customer, and a system that keeps breaking down. The equipment is only as good as it's installation, and over 70% are not installed correctly.
?
I think maybe you are confusing SEER, which is an efficiency-related rating (higher SEER means more effective use of the electric power used to compress the gas), and TONS rating, which is a measure of the total cooling power of the system. (Tons used to mean how many tons per hour of ice was used in evaporative cooling building systems - a Refrigeration or Cooling Ton equals 12,000 Btu/Hour of energy exchange. A BTU, which is another antique measure but still used, is the energy needed to change the temperature of a pound of water one degree fahrenheit. Unfortunately, because of varying humidity and evaporation, this is not readily related to house air heating or cooling without a lot of assumptions and some computations. Relating this to today's world - the Manuals BayAreaAc referred to account for all these energy conversions and determine an estimated cooling (or heating) requirement for your specific house. The type of construction, solar exposure, general climatic conditions such as average temperatures, humidity, and hottest and coldest normal ambient temperatures and desired inside temperture are all taken into account in the more sophisticated versions of the analysis, so there is no "standard", though a rough old rule of thumb was about 1 ton of cooling per 500SF of house. Obviously, this was a WAG only because it did not account for insulation, type of roofing, whether you live in Alaska or Miami, etc. The ACCA manuals do a very simplified form of evaluation to arrive at a "design", which generally will be adequate. OF course, highly precise calculations are not really needed because A/C units generally come in even ton ratings - so if you are at say 2.6 ton requirement you will be getting a 3-ton unit anyway. SEER ratings are not a direct measure of efficiency, but the relative difference between ratings gives you good idea of the unit's relative efficency in using electricity - so a 16 SEER should be about 19% more efficient (so roughly comparable lower electricity bill) than a comparably sized 13 SEER unit. 13 SEER is the lowest efficiency currently allowed to be built for general use, 19 SEER is about the highest efficiency made by pretty much all manufacturers, and about 25 SEER is the highest rated though very pricey shelf-item units, though special construction custom units can reach about 30 SEER. Note however, like any government sponsored rating, much of it is hooey when you get down to it - for instance, SEER ratings are figured based on 80 degree inside air temp and 82 degrees outside, when that is far from the normal case of mid to low seventies inside and high eighties or above outdoors. This makes the absolute SEER rating meaningless, but relative numbers still have meaning in comparing units. Note these efficiency ratings are for conventional air conditoners and heat pumps working in ambient air conditions. Ground sourced Geothermal or lake/river exchange cooling units, though initially more expensive in most cases, can greatly exceed the air-exchange unit efficiencies because they are exchanging heat with cold natural water rather than with a high-temperature outside air, and instead of continually compressing a gas are just circulating cold water. I worked on one geothermal cooling project which had almost infinite efficiency, which of course makes no sense - but the only power was for sensors and a control valve as the water flow was single-pass under gravity flow, so no power was used to circulate the water.

The install went well. Once we made the decision to go with the higher end unit it was installed and running in a few days. All we had to do was pick the type of unit from a few provided options and pay the bill. Highly recommend.

I couldn't be happier!!! I though it was impossible to have an even temperature through out the house with so many windows. I had the original builder tell me that the size of the HVAC unit was adequate to the size of the house but I had too many windows; therefore, unless I'd change the windows the temperature of the house was not going to be the same........ It was frustrating because not only the temperature was uneven and it took too long to heat/cool the house, there was also lots of dust everywhere just couple of days after cleaning it. I called
Atlanta HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
to see what other options I had. From the 1st phone conversation with the company I was impressed with their professional approach. The sale person as well as the installers were informative, always on time, respectful of my home and professional. And they wore booties :-) They installed larger size unit, dehumidifier, new filtration system and what my kids love the most, IComfort Thermostat that can be programmed from any smart phone of computer. We now have a very comfortable temperature everywhere in the house, better air quality, and we even safe money on utility bill since this new unit is lot more energy sufficient.

This was hands down one of the worst HVAC installs we've ever had at our home. The business owner,
Atlanta HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
Stone, is

also the installer who shows up with 2-3 other guys. Normally you get better service when the business owner is on the

job, but this was far from what we experienced. So let's get started: The bid seemed higher than any other company

especially since he would be installing discontinued 13 SEER, 1 stage heat pumps that he was getting way below cost.

We had our reservations about this, and had expressed our sever dislike for the brand AIREASE as we had one in the

past that had been problematic for us. We also felt that a higher quality unit with multiple stage, variable speed

capabilities would be more appropriate due to the humidity issues we have in the house. He proceeded to tell us that

higher SEER variable speed equipment wouldn't help with humidity issues at all and that our house was too old and had

too little insulation to make these units worth our while. We asked to see model numbers and literature on the

equipment to be installed before he was to commence work, but he neither responded to this request nor provided the

information. In fact, even after the install, he had disposed of all manuals and literature that came with the units

and never provided us with them. It took 2 almost 3 weeks to get an actual written up quote which consisted of two

new heat pumps, 2 whole house dehumidifiers,2 whole house air filtration units, 2 uv lamps,2 heat / air exchangers and

round metal pipe ductwork (not flex duct!). Also, proper flood plain stand were to be designed and installed for the

units to sit on. We scheduled a date for him to show up, September 6th, 2014. He charged us 60 % up front and told

us that he was quoting us the worst case scenario on the price of the install but that in reality the install would

not go near the high end price of almost $16K. After the install and to our great surprise, the overall bill was more

expensive than what he quoted us by $2K even after he reused old equipment and didn't even install half of the items

in his quote (no air exchangers, no uv lamps, no sensors and dehumidistats to acompany the dehumidifiers, no round

pipe ductwork (got a mess of flex duct though), no return plenums!) We actually requested that
Atlanta HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
units be

installed. He showed up with AIREASE units (2 heat pumps, a 1.5 ton for the downstairs area of about 800 sq ft and

one for the upstairs/main level at 3.5 tons for 1200 sq ft of living space). We were very displeased about this, but

had spent so long without heating and air that we just let him install them against our better judgement. He reused

old components form our old system (old R-22 refrigerant lines and a 20 year old condensate line and old condensate

pump), which we specifically forbid him to do and because we were quoted for and paying for all new equipment.

Instead of the flood plain stands, we have the 1.5 ton unit sitting on the old concrete pad, which was fine. However,

he installed the 3.5 ton heat pump on unmortered, stacked- 2-high concrete blocks and balanced the feet of the unit

with wood shims!! Save your money with this guy! He's not cheap but does cheap work and down right
Atlanta HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
about what

he's installing. He used duct tape instead of proper insulation to wrap the refrigerant and condensate lines. He ran

indoor electrical wires to an outside disconnect, which should have been put in conduit at the very least. We have

botched ceiling vents (many rattle so loudly that you have to turn the unit off to hear yourself think and some that

actually drip water, and some have holes in the ceiling protruding further out than the actual vent cover exposing the

attic to the living space). Most of the install is not to code (no mastic sealing of duct joints, over-sized units for

our house, which seems to be causing the condensation issues...this list is actually much longer than I care to

elaborate here). Furthermore, when we tried to get the owner to rectify his mistakes, he literally cursed at us on

the phone, which we recorded because at this point we knew that we had been taken advantage of. He became verbally

aggressive when we asked about the permits not being pulled. Then we found out that he had lied about having his

license to work in GA and couldn't even pull the permits if he wanted to nor could he legally fix any of his mistakes.

At that point, we fired him, asked him politely to hire a GA licensed contractor to come and remove his equipment and

refund the 60% he demanded up front. That's when he really got nasty. He refused to answer any of our phone calls and

proceeded to take out a
Atlanta HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
against our home to collect the rest of the money that he demanded that we owed him,

without so much as providing receipts and a list of itemized components that he did install. Plus, there was no

obvious readjustment in cost for having reused old equipment and components. In fact, the price he now says we are

indebted to him for is even more than he quoted! This contractor finds it easier and cheaper ($20 to be exact) to file

bogus liens against your property than to fix or actually install the missing equipment he says you owe him for.

Customer service and fair business practices apparently only apply to other contractors and businesses. If you hire

this guy, DO NOT GIVE HIM ANY MONEY UP-FRONT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. DO NOT PAY HIM CASH. You will need all the help

you can get when trying to get this guy to fix any mistakes or to actually complete the work he was hired to do. Have

all work inspected before you ever pay him a penny! Test out all equipment for at least a week and check to make sure

that he actually installed what he said he would install especially the emergency heat strips. Also, make sure that he

actually connected the heat strips at the thermostat to work (red wire if you remove the face plate.) Our emergency

heat was purposefully left disconnected for some reason on both units that he installed. We don't normally write

reviews on most stuff we get done, good or bad, but this botched install and degree of deception when dealing with

this guy was such a bad experience that we felt that we should warn others. Be very wary of this company! Be safe and

go with a more professional and honest company that stands by their work and equipment. He also threatened us with a

lawsuit if we actually spoke up and told anyone about what he did. Like I said earlier, just go with another company.

Definitely do not hire him if you live in GA. It's against the law and will end up making you knowingly liable if you

knew that he was not licensed at the time of hiring him. He is licensed in TN only and can work in
Atlanta HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
through

reciprocity, so hire him at your own risk if you live in these areas. Make sure you get everything in detailed

writing. Record all conversations, texts, and emails that you have with him and hold him to his promises! Above all

else, get his work inspected before you pay him. After having given him almost $10 K, he pretty much stopped

addressing any of our concerns and wishes and did whatever he wanted to do and installed what he wanted to. When he

said he was finished, there was definitely still work to do, but he told us that we would have to "make it worth his

time" to address these unfinished issues, which meant that he wanted more money on top of what he was gauging us for.

Lastly, he doesn't even stand by the
Atlanta HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
30-day labor warranty on his work! If the units that he installs are

malfunctioning the day after the install, he will insist that you pay him more money to make them work! Hiring him

was a huge and costly mistake for us. The only thing nice about his company is that his help is very sweet. I

actually feel sorry for them that they work for this contractor.

The call to schedule service took 4 working days to set a time to come. Missed first appointment due to a plumbing emergency at another residence. Therefore a second date was set for three days later. After the first visit the leaking recurred within 24 hours (the professionals attempted the same "repair" that I had tried unsuccessfully for two months - hubby met them.) Therefore another call needed to be schedule a second visit (a week out) was required to repair a leaking toilet using this
deal. Now the toilet still runs (leaks) since the handle can get stuck.
There was some confusion about getting the deal applied to our repair, therefore my husband paid $59 the first time they came to the house, which should be refunded since it was part of the deal. I sent an email to the company to explain the Angie Deal and request a refund for $59. I have not heard back. This was in-part due to this being my first time using Angie's List . . . but I still need the refund because both trips combined were under $200.
Therefore the second repair still leaves with only 65% of the problem solved.
There seemed to be a total lack of awareness on R. S.
Atlanta HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
's part that an Angie's List referral would follow. If the vendor understood that a rating was part of the deal, it seems that the scheduling and repair would have been more customer service oriented. I suppose this may be the best way to determine how the vendor performs. I have a background in design and construction of commercial real estate and this is not what I would expect from a well known vendor, rather a small shop with one or two plumbers.
