"My experience does not match those of other reviewers. My floor was only 7 years old and had two main trouble spots- living room and the hallway by a door to the outside. My initial" call was not answered for several days...which should have been my first clue. I had specific dates that I would be out of town and he agreed to do the work during that time. He then called the day I was supposed to leave and tried to change the dates. (Second clue). He wanted to charge 175 to move my few furnishings onto the screened back porch and then back in when they were done. To save some money I moved all but 2 pieces out there myself. I tagged each piece so they would know what room it belonged to. He agreed to move it back in for half the original moving quote. My floor, being factory finished, originally had an exceptionally smooth finish, except where water had discolored the edges of some boards. I talked to him about staining it a bit darker, and he told me no, it would show scratches. I asked about an extra coat of polyurethane to make sure the floor was really waterproof. I provide foster care to,dogs for brother
and accidents happen. He said that they did 2 coats of gloss, and a top coat of satin, and that's it. This did not inspire confidence that I was being listened to, and this turned out to be the case. When I returned after a week abroad, exhausted. I opened the door to an empty house. Only the two pieces he had moved were back in the house, despite our agreement , the labels I had put on everything, and the charge to move it all back in. But the bigger surprise was the floor. Instead of the smooth finish I had started with, the floor now has deep grooves in the wood grain, and when you feel it, the grooves feel rough, not smooth. So instead of having an easy-care smooth floor, I now have a rutted, uneven floor. The grain is so rough, it feels like it was sanded with very rough paper, and never smoothed with a finer grit before they put the poly down. It's also hard to imagine how 3 coats of poly could leave a floor feeling so rough. In my younger days, I refinished my own floors, and they came out better than this job. I called the owner, and he came out to assess my concerns. I was exhausted from jet lag, and I feel like he just said things to placate me. "I don't know how they get such a smooth finish from the factory...but this is how it comes out when we do it by hand" I showed him a gouge and lack of poly along a door in my hallway, and he said "oh yeah, along the edges this happens " When I asked how the floor could possibly feel so rough with 3 coats of poly on it...he got quite defensive and said he put the three coats on himself. (I had someone looking after my house for me while I was gone, and she said someone else did all the work, but I have no actual proof of that) I have a feeling they sent a new, or untested team to do the job, knowing I was out of town and couldn't check. If not, the only other explanation is that they just did a very very mediocre job on my floors. He did remove the charge for moving the furniture. There was no real excuse..he said he didn't know when I was coming back, but I left a large note with the name and number of the person taking care of my house . When I reminded him of that fact, he admitted it would have made sense to call her and ask.

"All the great reviews I read about Mr.
and his crew are true/accurate. He was personally responsive in both estimating the work and showing up to start/complete" the job. Excellent communication in planning/scheduling. His price was very reasonable. They moved the limited (but heavy) furniture, completed the work on time and helped me replace the items after the floors had dried. I recommend him highly and will happily hire him in the future when I do some remodeling and need parts of the floors repaired.

"Prompt response and return of phone calls. Neat and professional in the work. No mess left. Did several extra things not initially in our agreement for no extra cost. I had to reschedule" about 5 days before original agreed start date because stairs had not been completed on time. He did this without complaint or adding on a delay which I appreciated.

Hardwood Flooring

There are few home improvement choices that add as much character and warmth — not to mention resale value — as hardwood flooring. But before hiring a flooring contractor to install or repair hardwood flooring, it’s important to know both its advantages and disadvantages.

From the wall street journal online:

"Etiquette and tipping experts agree that tipping a contractor and his employees isn't expected because contractors offer to do a job for you at a specific price. Any extra money they would want would be built into their bid. Also, it's a business relationship rather than one where they are performing a personal service for you like a waiter or a maid. But if the employees do extra jobs around the house, then experts say it is appropriate to tip a cash amount equivalent to the task; "tip gifts" such as cookies and drinks can count. "The key to tipping is whether or not it was outside the scope of what was normally expected," says Mark Brenner, author of "Tipping for Success!"

My opinion is that a little bit of courtesy (snacks, drinks, expression of appreciation etc.) goes a long way and upon completion of their work you feel compelled by a job well done to offer a little extra in the form of a tip - go for it, but do not feel obligated.
?
Agreed.  If you have existing cracking in porcelain you need to know the cause first.  I don't know of any reputable contractor that would dare install tile over existing tile.  Also, any manufacturer warranties for defects would be null due to improper installation.  Did the contractor offer this solution or did you ask for it?  The mear fact that he is agreeing to or offering it tells me you need to leave this guy for someone who knows what they are talking about before he does only half the job which will have to be redone in the near future, costing you more in the long run.

I get so many calls from customers that were talked into a "cheaper" way to do something only to find the work very sub-par.  The sad part is they are out the money they spent in the first place along with the additional amount I have to charge just to undo what the first contractor did before I can do it right.  This floor could end up costing you double what it should if it's not done right.

We were very pleased with the results. They were actually a sub contractor to our general contractor. There was no much the general contractor had to do other than schedule the work. They show up when scheduled, work in a highly efficient manner and do excellent work. There price is excellent. I watched them install the kitchen floor and it was amazing to see the efficiency of the work. They had to blend the new floor into an existing hardwood floor in the adjacent room. They did that extremely well. While you can still see some difference from an 80 year old floor and the new one due to difference in the wood grain and use on the older floor, the work they did to blend them was excellent. We have another rental property and plan on using them again to refinish those floors.

I found Mr.
Asheville Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
on Angie's List. He immediately responded to my call and went to look at the job the next day. This work was for an extremely meticulous customer who believed we damaged their floor during an electrical installation. This may have been the case, but my employee claims there's nothing we could have done that damaged the floor in such a way. The point is, it was already a delicate situation and I was concerned that trying to repair the floor would simply compound the issue. Mr.
Asheville Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
sent me a quote immediately after seeing the job and at my approval completed the repair within a day or two. The customer was extremely satisfied with the work and the problem was resolved. Being a contractor who also offers services and deals with clients on a daily basis, I was extremely impressed with the manner in which Mr. Rodgriguez conducts his business and the quality of his workmanship.

They came out right away for a free estimate. Price was better than another company and they seemed really knowledgeable so we decided to go with them. Showed up on time first day and explained everything to me. Even showed me two stain options on my floors once they were sanded so I could know what they would look like. So far they have only done the upstairs, but they are coming back next week to finish the job. The floors look incredible. We couldn't be happier.

The 25 year old parquet floor in my kitchen was in bad shape with oil stains and some of the finish almost worn through. Although I didn't expect miracles
Asheville Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
said they could do a good job with it even though I was told that parquet was difficult to work with due to the cross grains in the wood. Although the job required some rescheduling they were very good at keeping in touch with me during the 4 days it took to sand the floor and put on 3 coats of oil based polyurethane. The floor now looks brand new, it is amazing! They did a great job! FYI though, sanding is a very messy business and requires considerable clean up, in this case worth every bit of it. A good company that I would use again and refer to my friends.

I found
Asheville Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
thru Angie's List and google. He is and exceptional guy who very knowledgeable, professional and ethical. The results of refinishing our wood floors was terrific and exceeded my expectations. I have referred him to several other colleagues and friends.
He showed up on time everyday. He was able to accommodate some of my scheduling challenges due to our business. His knowledge of various kinds of wood flooring , construction, and finishes was impressive and helped us get a better result from our work with him. He took the time to do the job right and finished the job on time as he promised. He was professional in providing and emailing a written estimate and bill after the work was complete. He made every effort to keep a clean and professional workspace and to minimize the impact of dust on our Inn.
Even thought his bid was slightly below the other bids we received, I decided to go with him because of his knowledge and professionalism. Floor refinishing is his main business and not a sideline as with some other companies. I recommend him highly and without reservation to anyone needing this type of service.

I'd moved out for a month for house repairs. First a General Contractor was responsible for mold remediation and house repairs, to be followed by new hardwood installation. I was staying in the country (beyond daily phone reception), so I told the
Asheville Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
rep to contact the GC (whom he knew and had his phone #.) Two men installed the floors, without supervision.

The GC and I were there one morning just in time to see that the trim placed around the fireplace was uneven on both sides, and luckily could be changed. The man who installed it did not speak English.

The refridgerator and
Asheville Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
had been pulled out of their places by the GC and were in the house. The two men put the fridge out on the unprotected porch, and left it there in the weather, instead of calling the GC.
It is new and quite heavy and had to be lifted down a step. For whatever reason, the fridge is not the same, and now rattles.

The original GC and crew had tightly taped up all kitchen drawers, cabinets, and pantry to keep any dust from entering them. The floor installers tore all of this plastic protection off. Consequently, vast amounts of saw dust (from cutting the boards) and other construction debris entered every nook and cranny. It took me weeks to clean out my kitchen, washing every individual item, etc. Huge hassle.

The floors looked beautiful at first. Then I heard the sickening sound of pop, pop, pop as the boards popped up in every room. Then they started to cup. I called the
Asheville Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
rep who said I should buy a dehumidifier, which I did. He did not bother to look at this MAJOR issue (1/2 mile from his office).

Dehumidifier has been running for months, but still no change.

I now have very expensive, wavy, cupped oak floors.

Also, instead of using a lock box, the men were given a key to my house, so I had the expense of having my locks changed.

Had I first read the one negative review for this provider, I probably would not have selected them; luckily, I didn't.
We bought a home in Asheville with a huge great room with a Southern exposure. When the area rugs were lifted, we were horrified. The cherry flooring was very dark in some places, the original color in others, and totally bleached out in yet other places. Quite simply, the flooring was an unanticipated disaster.
We found
Asheville Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
and Floors by Googling "certified hardwood inspectors" for Western North
Asheville Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
. We ended up speaking to a man who is an acknowledged expert in his field,
Asheville Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
. He inspected the flooring and explained how it had gotten in such awful condition. In essence, what he did was educate us, not try to sell us; and he took his time doing so. He gave us a two-part estimate--one to sand and refinish the floors, and one in case some of the wood was damaged so badly it had to be replaced. The sanding and refinishing job was incredibly difficult and painstaking. The firm was able to sand the floors well enough that it was unnecessary to replace any of the wood, thus saving us thousands of dollars--and a lot more angst.
The end result is that we have floors that now look stupendous.
In addition,
Asheville Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
kept in constant contact with us (even during a personal medical emergency) to keep us up-to-date on everything that was being done.
We would recommend this firm without reservation to anyone who wishes to work with true professionals who are trustworthy, responsible, and take absolute pride in their work.
