"Things were fine except for the two problems that had to be resolved and at the time we paid for our porch on 11/28/08 we advised owner

of these two problems and he said he would have them fixed: unsafe wiring and broken piece of siding that was shown to

when we paid him and which he said he would take care of. We believed in him. Another problem popped up over the winter of 2009 and we phoned

who said he would stop by, but he never did. The third problem was warped Azek and since we did not hear from

, we spoke with the Azek manufacturer's rep who stopped by and said the warping was caused by improper installation. Mr.

has ignored our phone calls, letters, Emails that were initiated during the one year warranty period that ended in November 2009. Since we are at a loss to know what else to do about these three problems, we feel other potential customers of

should be made aware that he might not follow through on any unfinished business made known to him during the warranty period. Also, re No. 9 above (Professionalism and Courtesy), on 11/28/08 we would have rated this an "A"; but after this, things went downhill and the rating is now "F."

"We like his work a lot, and this is actually the second stone patio he has done for us. He had built another one on our property years ago, so now we have two. The older one has held up quite well over the years. He did the new one quickly and the quality of work was really good. I believe the price was very fair when you consider the size and type of materials he used."

Tips to choose the right material for your deck

"Now that is outdoor living right there," says Michael Koch. (Photo courtesy of Hometown Decking and Decorative Concrete)

Which type of material is best to build your deck? You have many choices depending on your budget, your taste, your style and the terrain. One Austin-area builder gives you four tips for making the right decision.

How much does it cost to build a deck?

Getting permits, picking the right contractor and selecting the best deck material for your needs are all important choices to make when building a new deck. (Photo courtesy of Red Deer Construction/DECKo)

Adding a new deck to your home can increase its curb appeal, function, and resale value. With a host of deck types, materials and construction methods available, what can you expect to pay for a typical job?

Should I paint or stain my deck?

Angie's List member Larry J. of Yakima, Wash., submitted this photo of what he called an "excellent" deck-staining experience. "They successfully navigated weather complications and then made the deck staining process look easy while doing a beautiful, professional job."

Angie Hicks responds to a homeowner who wants to know if it’s better to paint or stain an exposed wood deck. The member says the deck was stained in the past but now it has worn off.

Installing deck stairs in 4 steps

Installing a small set of deck stairs is a do-it-yourself challenge most homeowners can take on by themselves. Here's a step-by-step guide to attaching a set of stairs safely and securely to your deck.
