Local Best & Worst Contractors of 2011

About the list:

Our Best Contractors come from popular home improvement categories and must qualify for the prestigious 2011 Angie's List Super Service Award, which requires they have a current and overall grade of A and be in good standing with Angie's List. The Best also must have had a flawless - or nearly flawless - overall record, a minimum of six reports and multiple Page of Happiness nominations in the reporting period. These requirements put them in the top 1 percent of contractors eligible for the SSA.

To determine the Worst Contractors, we scrutinized member reports, Penalty Box cases and court records. We also interviewed scores of sources, basing our selections on the gravity or volume of allegations and the amount of damage customers say those contractors inflicted. In the More Worst Contractors section, we listed companies that remain in the Angie's List Penalty Box.

Finally, in keeping with our tougher stance on trade licensing, the Angie's List Trade Licensing Department audited every Best Contractor finalist for compliance with state and local laws. We booted those unable to produce a valid trade license or prove they didn't need one. If a Worst Contractor lacked a required trade license, we included information on their noncompliant status.

Why is there no Listing of Best & Worst Contractors for Orlando?

No listings for Las Vegas?

I give up! Can't leave a comment! well, there is no Las vegas presence, so why do I still need to pay when Angie says no fees in areas where she has no presence..just fill in the blanks what I tried to say in an email that was kicked out as no text I guess

Hi D Terry,Thank you for your comment! Angie's List serves members in markets across the country. The Las Vegas market has been open for several years, and there are many service providers in your area as well as members who leave reports about those companies.

Why not a list for the entire State of RI. I think just naming the major cities you consider to be important is a slap in the face for all your paying subscribers in smaller venues.

need to know

Where is a listing for NYC?? Who is watching Angie?

I recently signed up for angie's list and I am really disappointed. Hardly any reviews. I live in north bay and they dont have a review no closer than SF what a joke!!!!!

If you're not finding what you're looking for, feel free to give us a call. Angie's List customer service representatives will help search the list for you!

I have just signed up with angies list, and really don't know what to say. I have had bad experiences with other classifieds, hope i don't have the same experience with this one. You recommended very highly.

No information on NYC contractors. I've been looking for a contractor for quite some time. Are there any competent, reliable and honest general contractors in NYC?

Hi J. Williams,Thanks for your comment! Angie's List contains reviews on more than 91,000 service providers in the NYC area. You can see more information on our NYC page: http://www.angieslist.com/companylist/us/ny/new-york-city-%28tristate-area%29/

Can you show Best and Worst roofers for El Paso, TX?

Will I get any information of value if I join Angie's List to learn about service providers in Baltimore?

Where can I find your list of best and worst contractors for Albany, NY?

Unfortunately, we didn't produce a best/worst list for our Albany market, but you can always find "the best of the best" in Albany by looking at SPs with current Super Service Award winners. We're always on the lookout for stellar companies and bad actors in all of our chapters, so if you have a tip about a contractor you think should be considered for the annual Best/Worst package, please let us know. Thanks!-Katie with Angie's List

Already disappointed as there is no listings of contractors in my area.

Alice,We have ratings and reviews of local contractors across the country, but only select cities are included in the Best/Worst annual package. Members can read countless reviews and ratings of local service providers in more than 550 home, health and auto categories.

with all the hurricanes down here, there has been plenty of price gouging and "experts" in home repair that suddenly pop up. we need a best and worst list.

Would like the best and worst of New Jerey

Hi Barbara,A select number of markets are included in this yearly feature, but we always have ratings and reviews on New Jersey service providers on Angie's List. If you're not yet a member, sign up with the promo code "ANSWERS" for a 20% discount. Thanks, and have a great day!

Many people obviously have a desire to know the best and worst for their particular area. Is there a plan to expand Angie's B&W list so all members across the country can benefit from this information?

Unfortunately, we haven't yet produced a best/worst list for the Denver area, but you can always find "the best of the best" in Denver by looking at companies on Angie's List Denver that have a track record of positive reviews and those who have accepted the Super Service Award. While we strive to provide information of this type to Angie's List members across the country, it's not always feasible to produce the Best & Worst package for every major U.S. city. We're always on the lookout for stellar companies and bad actors in all of our chapters, so if you have a tip about a contractor you think should be considered for the annual Best/Worst package, please let us know. Thanks! - Josh from Angie's List

Why is the B&W list 2011 so far out of date? We are 3 months into 2013 and you have been in business 18 yrs and and you don't have 2012 updated! Why in 18 yrs you don't have a B&W list for the cities serviced. How about a car dealership provider list so we can see who is reputable and the worst to do business with.

Hello John,Thank you for your inquiry! We do in fact have the most recent list online. The Best & Worst Contractors of 2012 can be found here: http://www.angieslist.com/articles/best-worst-contractors-2012.htm
