Before any work is done, obtain a written contract with the total prices and statements of guarantees that the cleaning company offers. Most reputable companies will return if carpet stains show back up after they leave, so ask about any guarantees before you sign a contract.
Carpet cleaners can define room sizes differently, so ask the company you’re considering about their definition. Often, a room is considered a single-purpose area less than 250 square feet. Plus, stairs and hallways are generally not considered part of a room. Knowing this information ahead of time will ensure you feel that you get your money’s worth at the end of the job.

Common carpet cleaning methods
There are several carpet cleaning options that can give new life to even the ugliest of carpet stains and high-traction areas. Here are two common carpet cleaning methods:
Hot-water extraction, also known as steam cleaning, is the most widely used method. Hot water is sprayed on the carpet fibers, drawing out dirt and grime. The suction system then pulls up this loose soil and water leaving behind a clean surface. It will take between four and six hours for the carpet to fully dry.
Dry powder method involves application of an absorbent powder on the carpet. This compound can be brushed in to extract soil from the fibers. Vacuuming the area then pulls up the compound and the dirt. There are variations to this method that does involve some hot-water application, but to a much lesser degree than steam cleaning.
Professional carpet cleaning companies recommend having your carpets cleaned every six to 12 months. However, high-traffic areas may require more frequent attention.
