Worried about mold?

Q: I'm worried I might have black mold growing under my peer and beam home that's then being pulled into the AC system. What can I do to find out for sure, short of spending hundreds of dollars on possibly dubious testing?

A: According to Ken Jenniges of the highly-rated Steamatic of Indianapolis, the only way to tell for sure is to have it inspected. "You can start by having someone come out and do a visual inspection. If mold is discovered in the visual inspection, a clean up can take place then and you can do testing afterwards to make sure that is all of it," Jenniges says. Having someone go into a crawl space can cost around $150, but if clean up or testing is requiring, some companies will then take the inspection fee out of your final bill.
