COMPLAINT: Susan Hogan, Alexandria, Va.
"There was nothing dramatic about the job: tear out 12 old windows and install 12 new ones.
Wheaton Door & Window Co. did a shabby job. At that point, I paid $3,761.
Once Wheaton came out to correct the problems, I had an issue with my custom window treatments not fitting because of the trim they installed. When they finished, they requested the final $1,500.
I said compensation remained unresolved. In the end, I was left with three damaged walls, window treatments I can no longer use and no compensation for my time and trouble."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want $1,700 from Wheaton."
RESPONSE: Jack Weber, president, Wheaton Door & Window Co.
"The member's version of events is misleading.
She fails to mention: She canceled her scheduled installation three times; An inspector from the window manufacturer told her our installation was 'excellent'; She gave high praise to our installer, 'Mike,' whom she called in writing 'a meticulous craftsman, both competent and polite' on a signed completion form; and she refused our offer to fix her wall scratches at our expense.
What she also doesn't say is that she wants to short-change us on the balance due by more than $2,600."
STATUS: Stalemate
