West Chester homeowner says HVAC repair didn't restore heat

COMPLAINT: Laura Shorter, West Chester, Ohio

Last year, I was having a problem with my furnace. Al's Heating & Cooling Inc. came out and told me it was the ignition switch and replaced it. I came home the next day and there was no heat. They thought it needed a different switch, so they put one on.

A couple days later, the furnace went out again. They came out again and told me the furnace needed to be replaced and gave me an estimate. I got a second opinion and used another company to replace it.

Months later, [Al's Heating & Cooling] decided to bill me for the service call and ignition switch. I told them I'd pay for the service charge but not the switch because it didn't fix the problem.

I paid them for the service call. Several months later, I received a bill for the ignition switch and they're threatening to send me to collections if it's not paid.

DESIRED RESOLUTION: I want Al's Heating to stop harassing me for $80 to pay for an ignition switch that didn't fix anything. I paid for a service call that provided a misdiagnosis.

RESPONSE: Richard Cox, president, Al's Heating & Cooling Inc.

The bill is for the original service call and part, which she should have paid for at the time of service.

We did not charge her for the second part when we replaced it a week later. We suggested replacing the furnace, not the part. The parts we installed worked until she had the furnace replaced. We stand by our reputation with Angie's List and she still owes her bill.

went on a service call with a friend of mine on a follow up after Al's had told them They needed a new unit. we checked the system out it was a carrier heat pump down flow. the only thing we found was three dirty air filter's stacked on top of each other. filters had fallen out of frame. the unit was tripping out on over temp limit. the fix replace dirty filter make adjustment to frame. we saved owner aprox 3500.00 for new system.
