Tips on finding the right Charlotte pediatrician
Finding a pediatrician is one of the most important decisions a parent can make, as entrusting someone with your child's health requires a large amount of trust.
Though there are 445 listed Charlotte pediatricians listed on Angie’s List, not all have been highly rated by our members. Join or sign in today to see physician reviews, read member reports about recent services and to find the right pediatrician for your family.
When deciding which pediatrician to trust as your children’s primary physician, consider these factors:
Referrals: Talk to parents you trust to get a referral for a great pediatrician. They know your parenting style and might be your best option for finding someone you will feel good about. If you’re new to the Charlotte area or don’t have many people to ask, check Angie’s List, as many of your Charlotte neighbors can help provide just the right referral and recommendation.
Vaccine status: There has been great debate over vaccines in recent years. Some parents still want to have all the vaccines done at once while others prefer to spread them out. Talk to the doctor you are considering to see if he is willing to work with the decisions you have made for your family.
Office visits: Find out how the office is with appointments. You want a pediatrician who won’t get too far behind schedule during the day. However, you want a doctor who will provide you with the time you need to ask questions. Find out how much time is allowed for appointments to help make the decision.
Regular doctors: Children get used to seeing the same doctor. Find out if your child will typically see the same doctor or if your child will always see a different doctor. This can be a deciding factor.
Phone calls: There will be times when you need advice from the doctor. It might be a fever that strikes suddenly or concern about diarrhea. Find out if your doctor is willing to answer some calls over the phone or if they will always require that you come in for an office visit. Find out if there is an emergency service that can answer calls that come in during the night.
Insurance: This may prove to be the deciding factor. Before considering any pediatrician, check to be sure that he or she does take your medical insurance.
Atmosphere: Visit the office to be sure that you feel comfortable with the atmosphere in the office. It should be child-friendly and welcoming. The staff should be patient with children and understanding. Most of all, you should feel good about the office and the staff.
