Soffit solutions
COMPLAINT: Duane Schultz, Clearwater, Fla.
I hired The Gutter Man of Tampa Bay LLC to replace existing wood soffits with aluminum. I was told the work would take about a week to complete, but it took several weeks. The installation had several problems. I called and they were corrected - I thought. I've had to call them three times to replace soffit falling out of the eaves. The fourth time I called, the owner was very apologetic and informed me the soffit was incorrectly installed. The installer had stapled them rather than screwing the J-channels into the wood. They rehung the falling soffit but made no offer to correct the rest of the incorrectly hung soffit.
DESIRED RESOLUTION: I would like all soffit to be properly installed, with J-channels screwed into the wood instead of being stapled.
STATUS: Resolved
Editor's note: The member informed Angie's List that the company repaired the soffit and he considers the case resolved.
Bothered by bathroom
COMPLAINT: Richard Moran, St. Petersburg, Fla.
I hired Michaelchristo Enterprises LLC to remodel my bathroom. I gave him $2,500 at first and an additional $5,000 three months later. He doesn't work in a timely fashion. He only worked six days in four months. The tile work isn't done, I still have no window, and he didn't finish many of the projects he started.
DESIRED RESOLUTION: I would like to get back at least $2,500 since I had to finish the bathroom.

Fence frustration
COMPLAINT: Wayne Walker, Valrico, Fla.
Specialist Fence Concrete installed a fence on my neighbor's property. In the process, they broke my sprinkler system. Instead of notifying me or my neighbor or repairing, they capped off the line so part of my sprinkler system wasn't functioning. I spent four hours looking for the source of the problem, including digging up my yard. I found the problem and fixed it myself. I sent a letter to the company requesting compensation for the time, materials and frustration involved in fixing their mistake. I got no response, so I called the company's owner. All he provided was a list of excuses why they were not responsible. The owner said he'd investigate and call me back later that day. I haven't heard back from him, one-and-a-half weeks later.
DESIRED RESOLUTION: I would like to be reimbursed $75 for the time, materials and frustration caused by their workers.

Forsaken furniture
COMPLAINT: Brenda Rabbitt, Belleaire Bluffs, Fla.
I ordered a mirror, table and chairs from Barewood Outlet. They were to be delivered eight to 12 weeks after I paid $1,129. Eight weeks later, I was told the chairs and mirror were in, but the table wasn't. When I went to get the mirror, it was broken in many pieces. They then told me the table was in, but the chairs would take several more weeks. I kept getting told another date for delivery, and my patience expired after waiting 16 weeks. At this point, I no longer want any of the items.
DESIRED RESOLUTION: I want a full refund.
STATUS: Penalty Box
Payment peeve
COMPLAINT: Bernard Walejewski, Zephyrhills. Fla.
I hired Cheever Construction to install an asphalt driveway. Owner Mark Cheever did good work, so I gave him a down payment for an additional job. He took the money and ran with it. I haven't seen him since.
DESIRED RESOLUTION: I would like the $1,275 down payment refunded.
STATUS: Penalty Box
Roofing recrimination
COMPLAINT: John and Nadine Tamborello, Tampa, Fla.
We hired McDonald's Roofing Inc. to take off our old roof, place new plywood and install a metal roof. The contract called for the job to be completed in six to 10 days. Three months later, the metal roof has still not been installed. [Owner Paul] McDonald has made many promises, but hasn't kept them. We've been very patient, but it's now hurricane season and we're without a roof. Mr. McDonald states that he spent the money we gave him on medical bills and now can't buy the material to complete our roof.
DESIRED RESOLUTION: We want our roof completed. If Mr. McDonald cannot do this, we want to be released from the contract and for him to reimburse us for the difference of what we paid him and the actual value of the work he did.
STATUS: Penalty Box
