Statesville customer finds landscaping job lacking
COMPLAINT: David Brown, Statesville, N.C.
"I bought a new home that needed landscaping work. [Owner Jerry] Turner of Turner Landscaping in Statesville gave us an estimate. I detailed the problems with the property, including that water needed to flow away from the house where the gutters empty, because it was getting in the crawl space.
"He told me he'd correct all the problems. They took down several trees but did not remove the stumps. Instead, they landscaped around the stumps, putting down grass seed and straw. They unhooked the downspouts from the pipes running the water underground and left them going straight down without removing or covering the pipes underground, which made the water problem worse than before.
"After many calls and appointments to fix the problems that no one showed up for, we didn't know what to do. We learned Turner was going through some health issues. Then, one day he drove up and said he wanted to reseed the lawn. I explained the ongoing water issue and that grass seed wasn't going to help with the main reason I hired his company.
"He said he would be back. That was several months ago, and we've not heard a word from Turner Landscaping. We have no grass, and I hired another company to grind the stumps. I will now have to hire another company to correct Turner's errors."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "Fix the water drainage problems and bring new soil to reseed the yard for grass, or refund the full $9,000."
