COMPLAINT: Cassandra Moe, St. Paul
"I hired AYN Builders Inc. to remove and rebuild my roof, rebuild the third floor, and build a deck off the third floor.
They also did structural work in other parts of the house: the stairway between the second and third floors was removed and rebuilt, a bathroom and laundry room were added on the second floor, and some exterior work was done.
The final product was good in terms of construction quality, but they didn't finish the work, have it inspected or close out the permits.
They didn't pay a supplier, and padded the final bill with items that were left out of the original bid.
The process was unreasonably stressful because of poor management and communications. When I brought up the issues, the contractor became very personal and nasty, and suggested that all the problems stem from female customer's' emotions and incompetencies.
They're decent carpenters, but they have very poor business and communication skills.
I was forced to pay the supplier $3,200 to prevent a lien being placed on my home, and I've disputed three charges on the bill, totaling $2,130."
DESIRED RESOLUTION:
"I want AYN Builders, Inc., to finish the work or reimburse me$3,200 me for the supplier's bill."
STATUS: Stalemate
AYN Builders, Inc. responded to Angie's List and made a counteroffer, but Moe and the service company couldn't reach a compromise.
