COMPLAINT: Dorothy Hauptmann, Creve Coeur, Mo.
"I hired Metro Paving to install a new asphalt driveway. They didn't dispose of debris they left behind. I called them, and they said they'd come out to clean it up but never did. I called them to fix a water drainage problem because water was flowing into the garage, and they didn't fix that.
"They didn't put sand down to keep the asphalt from clumping. They also left behind unsightly tire marks. My check cleared, but I haven't received the lien waiver I asked them to send me. I paid them $200 less than the original contract price because of these problems."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want Metro Paving to send me the lien waiver."
RESPONSE: Bambi Vogler, office manager, Metro Paving
"The member says we didn't dispose of the debris. The debris she's talking about was some asphalt pebbles that resulted from the paving job. The company's president came out to her home the next day and picked up any visible debris.
"It isn't necessary to put sand down to keep the asphalt from clumping. Also, tire marks are a common outcome when dealing with asphalt and they'll eventually wear off.
"We sent a lien waiver to the member the same day we received her check. Until this report, we didn't know that she hadn't received it. We issued another lien waiver immediately. Metro Paving accepted the member's taking $200 off the contract price in the hopes it would relieve any distress we caused her."
