Services offered by a Los Angeles handyman
The walls in your house could be blank because you have picture frames or artwork that needs hanging. Maybe you have a missing piece of drywall that needs a patch. You could have a piece of furniture that has been sitting unassembled in its box for months. Jobs like these could easily be taken care of with one call to a handyman.
Angie’s List contains listings for more than 400 highly rated handymen that service residents in Los Angeles area. Yari Zelig, the namesake behind highly rated Yari the Handyman in Sherman Oaks, Calif., says a handyman is “someone who you call when you need anything from A to Z” done in your house and usually takes on small to medium scale projects. His clients often request furniture assembly and smaller electrical and plumbing work.
“And of course, somebody that is good with his hands,” Zelig says.
Tony Griffith, owner of highly rated Tony G’s Handyman Service in Burbank, Calif., says he often gets requests for hanging doors, installing windows, floor installation, drywall and stucco repair. He and his team also build projects for clients, including decks and pergolas, but Griffith says not all handymen have the equipment or manpower to do so. Make sure you explain the services you’re requesting when you interview potential service providers.
California’s Contractors State License Board requires contractors to be licensed when service and labor costs total more than $500, so the decision to hire an unlicensed handyman is up to the homeowner. Before making a hiring decision, ask for proof of licensure, insurance and bonding. You can also read reviews on Angie’s List or ask the handyman for references from previous jobs.
