San Diego remodeler updates home, leaves historical charm
Description of remodeling work: "I contacted Mike Zimmerman [owner] at Gladys Design upon a friend's recommendation to work at my home for four months to complete renovations, which included remodeling a kitchen and a bathroom, doing extensive electrical work, replacing two sets of French doors and windows, and miscellaneous smaller projects."
Aker says Gladys Design went as far as to hook up his washer, dryer and fridge in his garage, since he would be living without a kitchen during the construction process.
Member comments: "I purchased a 1932 Spanish style home that needed a new kitchen and bathroom. Throughout the demolition and construction, Mike treated the improvements as if he was making them to his own home.
"He also offered ideas as to the reconfiguration of the kitchen that allowed me to modernize it, yet keep most of its 1930s charm. I got excellent value for the amount of money spent on the project."
