COMPLAINT: Andrea Gabel, San Antonio

"I hired Texas Landscape Solutions LLC to do some landscaping work. I was disappointed in the owner's, [Tom Flaherty], slowness to respond and start work, and at one point asked if he really wanted the work or whether I should hire someone else.

"I asked for changes in the proposal due to budgetary restraints, and he accommodated them, but very slowly. Once the contract was signed, work began and I have no complaints there. His crew is polite and works hard. I was pleased with the landscaping, but very disappointed in follow-up.

"If you want a company that will come in and do a decent landscaping job, Tom's company is OK. But if you need someone who can communicate well, this is definitely not the right person.

"I followed the mowing and watering directions, but have a terrible weed problem in the 2-month-old sod. Tom explained that I need to mow more frequently to get the grass to a better height. I followed these directions and noticed the weed problem worsening, so I e-mailed Tom for some advice. I didn't receive a response for five days.

"I called and was told they're very busy. I don't expect to hire a company that says they guarantee their plantings for four months, only to have them tell me after install that they're too busy to help me."

DESIRED RESOLUTION:  "I would like them to honor their four-month warranty and replace the dead plants and sod."

"We replaced one piece of sod that would not take with river rock that matched adjoining river rock."
