Refund for move avoids rocky relationship
COMPLAINT: Rebecca Fiebig, St. Petersburg, Fla.
"I hired Rock's Moving Co. Inc. in St. Petersburg to move from a third-floor apartment to a first-floor apartment within the same building. Everything seemed to go smoothly. After they were done, my first problem was that I ended up paying 30 percent more than the quote.
"Soon after they left, I noticed a huge scrape and multiple gashes in my beautiful wooden coffee table after I moved it to get ready for a carpet installation. The scrape was definitely new, and the coffee table was placed in a position where I wouldn't see the scrape unless I inspected the piece closely. I called Rock's right away, informed them of the damage and sent a photo of the damage.
"They told me the manager was unavailable, and someone would get back to me. Two days later, they hadn't called back. I called again, requested the manager, who was again unavailable, and the receptionist told me she'd talked to the movers, and they said the carpet installers had done it. But I took the photo hours before the carpet installers arrived. Two days later, she called back and said she'd send a $50 check. I didn't want $50; I wanted my coffee table repaired to its original condition. I've heard nothing [from them] since."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would be satisfied with a new table or having the damaged area fixed to its original condition."
COMPANY RESPONSE: Scott Chaddock, owner, Rock's Moving Co. Inc.
"I can't emphasize enough that if you're an Angie's List member, let us know. Angie's List customers do get preferential treatment, but only if we know you're a member. We give Angie's List members the benefit of the doubt and repair damage 100 percent of the time. The member spoke with our manager, Donna.
"When Donna told her the carpet installers probably damaged the piece, the member didn't say the installers had not yet arrived. I spoke with the mover who carried her table, and he said he personally carried it out, carried it in, and didn't put anything on top of it while it was on the truck.
"We kill ourselves to make Angie's List members happy and are sickened to get a bad report. We repair anything from an Angie's List move, even if we don't think we did it. We will send a check for the full price she paid for the table."
