What's the most common request you get from customers?
Jennings: "It would have to be rekeying a lock so the old key doesn't work anymore."
Verdino: "Car openings."
Malone: "'It's rekeying for homes."
How do you charge?
Jennings: "For rekeying it's $59.99 for up to six key holes. There's a trip charge of $39.50 for a lockout."
Verdino: "We charge by the job. When a customer calls me up, it depends on what the job is. Sometimes I have to see it first."
Malone: "It varies. We charge per job, but sometimes we charge by the hour. We don't play games."
Before you start a job, do you require some type of identification?
Jennings: "Yes, in the case of a lockout. In most cases, we're there to rekey and they're already in the home or the home is unoccupied and we don't ask."
Verdino: "Definitely. I realize it may be locked in the car, but after 10 years in the business, you kind of get a feel for that."
Malone: "Yes. We need to prove it within a reasonable doubt."
Do you have any advice for people who lock themselves out of their cars or homes all the time?
Jennings: "I recommend they always have a spare key outside in the same spot away from the door."
Verdino: "Try and make a copy of your key and keep it with you all the time, like in a pocket."
Malone: "Keep your locksmith's number on you. Get a favorite locksmith - one you know you can trust."
Do you have any funny or memorable experiences from your job?
Jennings: "It's always the couples messing with handcuffs. It happens quite often."
Verdino: "I've gotten calls from people who have left a bar intoxicated and lost their keys. I make keys for them, but then I call the police."
Malone: "I've had a couple of women do some weird stuff. They (flirt)."
