Patient experiences insurance issues after checkup

COMPLAINT: Gordon Dawkins, Dallas

"I went to Dr. Nicholaos Bellos' office for blood work and a regular checkup. They told me there were some insurance billing issues and claimed I owed them more than $270. They asked me to pay at least $135 before seeing the doctor because I hadn't met my deductible. This was not true. They had not applied my payment from my insurance company. My insurance assured me I didn't owe Dr. Bellos any money.

"After almost six weeks of pursuing the matter, Dr. Bellos' accounting department told me they had failed to post my insurance payment and that I now had a $135 credit with their office. After finding a new doctor, I called Dr. Bellos' accounting department and requested they refund the $135. But now there's only a $105 credit on my account with no explanation as to why. I've called repeatedly to talk to the office manager and their accounting department, but I've gotten no results. They gave me a copy of my statement showing the credit balance, but they won't refund my money."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a full $135 refund."

STATUS: Resolved
