COMPLAINT: Amber August Gilio, Batavia, Ill.
"I hired Mr. Handyman of Naperville to remove my kitchen's old tile countertops in preparation for new granite countertops.
"They said the cost of removing the old countertops and reconnecting the plumbing would be $350 to $400.
"When the workman from Mr. Handyman arrived, he noticed my hardwood floors were recently refinished and commented on how nice they looked. He decided to put paper down on the wood floors with painter's tape.
"He also determined that he needed someone to help him remove the countertops and disconnect the plumbing, so now I was being charged double time.
"The granite company installed the new countertops with no problem. The next day, the second Mr. Handyman workman from the first day arrived and began to reinstall the plumbing.
"He realized that he didn't have the proper supplies, so he had to call someone to go to the hardware store for him, so again I was being charged double time.
"It took him approximately six to eight hours to reconnect the plumbing.
"He left a mess: he didn't reconnect the sprayer properly, he left his soda bottle in my sink, he threw out the soap dispenser bottle, and he left the paper taped to the hardwood floors. I cleaned up the mess and began to remove the paper from the floors.
"The tape began removing the finish. I immediately called the owner and informed him of my complaints, especially the floor damage. He said he'd send someone that day to look at the damage — no one showed.
"We've been back and forth for the last 10 months trying to resolve this."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want my floors repaired, or for Mr. Handyman of Naperville to not charge me, since the work was done incorrectly and damaged my home."
