COMPLAINT: Amanda Ahrndt, Germantown, Wis.
"I hired Hernia Movers Inc. to move a king-size mattress and box spring, solid oak bedroom set and snow blower. I watched the movers cram our mattress into a ball and tighten straps around it. The mattress ripped in two places.
"After weeks of back and forth, the claim went first to one insurance company and then to another. They said they would only pay $90 based on the weight of the mattress. The insurance company refuses to weigh it.
"I would never do business with them again. They are completely unprofessional, have terrible customer service, and if they damage any of your items it may never get resolved."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want the company to replace the mattress and refund the cost of the move."
RESPONSE: Bill Apostolos, president, Hernia Movers Inc.
During the course of Ahrndt's move, a bed mattress tore. The mattress was not mishandled but damage did occur. Hernia Movers talked to Amanda Ahrndt's spouse. He requested the claim be submitted to our insurance carrier.
"We did as directed and submitted a claim on behalf of the client. The spouse thanked us twice via e-mail for the promptness with resolving this matter. We parted amiably and agreeably.
"The insurance company later sent a formal letter to the Ahrndts. Apparently the settlement offered by the insurance company did not please Amanda Ahrndt. Also, at no time was anyone from Hernia Movers ever "rude" or "unprofessional" with her.
"We never spoke or wrote to her. Hernia Movers never denied the mattress damage."
