COMPLAINT: Maureen Milazzo, Overland Park
"I hired Ronan's Roofing to re-roof my home a few years ago. They didn't clean up after themselves very well, and the quality of their work wasn't good.
They were supposed to guarantee their work for five years, but now I'm having problems with the roof. Some shingles fell off, and there's a leak. The flashing also needs to be redone, but they said if they do my flashing, they'll have to reflash my neighbor's roof as well since I live in a townhouse.
My chimney cap needs caulking and a little tuckpointing. I had a different roofing company come out, but I'll have to pay them to repair the problems. They found minimal tuckpointing and chimney cap problems but can replace the flashing without having to involve the neighbor."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a $500 refund to pay [the other company], who will replace the flashing on my side of the chimney only."
RESPONSE: Doug Seitter, general manager, Ronan's Roofing
"In response to this member, we weren't notified about any further cleanup needed or the quality of work until this complaint. We have a five-year warranty for leaks due to workmanship. None of her shingles fell off. Her attached neighbor's shingles fell off, which we weren't contracted to re-roof.
She had a leak that we repaired. We can't reflash just her side of the fireplace in order to do it properly. We gave her an estimate to reflash both sides of the fireplace and offered to waive her cost. She wasn't interested. We also told her she had holes in the mortar and that her chimney cap needed attention. That could be the problem."
