Landscaping contractor resolves mulch problem

COMPLAINT:  Sylvia McGowan, St. Paul, Minn.

"I hired Bachman's Inc. to install mulch and plant new shrubs. I went on vacation for a week and returned to find the work had already been done with no notification. Three of the shrubs were dead, and there were bare spots in the mulch.

"After I called them to report this, they promptly delivered and installed new plants, but told me they had brought the wrong color mulch and didn't offer to return with the correct kind. I wrote to Bachman's and told them all this. They haven't responded."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like Bachman's to install three inches of mulch on the bare spots."

RESPONSE: Tom Faust, manager, Bachman's Inc.

"This complaint was valid, and I have apologized for letting her down. She had voiced her concerns on our survey form. I received and read it, but failed to follow through with a call or a fix."

STATUS: Resolved

This customer was quite fortunate. Sadly there are many contractors who never accept responsibility for their shoddy work and the adverse impact on the customer. Certainly, the contractor should be given some credit for acknowledging his mistakes. Perhaps, the Angie's List negative attention also contributed to this positive outcome.
