Kansas City movers allegedly damage furniture, door

COMPLAINT: John David Oates, Kansas City, Mo.

"Moovers Inc. loaded and moved my home's contents from Olathe, Kan., to Kansas City. The service before the sale was of the highest professionalism, but once they completed the work, all customer service ended.

On moving day, they dropped my furniture but assured me it was fine. They also broke a storm door's hinge, which I discovered after they left. I contacted them by phone and e-mail the next day about the damages, and they promptly sent a claim form.

But after multiple calls and e-mails over several weeks requesting their assistance on how to place weights to the damages, they didn't acknowledge a single call or e-mail.

Three months later, I mailed a certified letter stating all the dates I attempted to contact them, and the list of itemized furniture and property damages.

A lot of the pieces were antique furniture that had been professionally refinished. If each piece were professionally redone, the cost would have been astronomical, but I stated I'd settle for $1,700 for the damages to the furniture and $298 for the storm door replacement.

Once they received the letter, they immediately called and said a handyman would contact me to schedule a time to come out. They said he'd use a touch-up pencil to fix my furniture and take any furniture that needed further repairs with him to fix.

I told them that for as long as it took to get them to respond, they wouldn't be taking my furniture away. They also said they'd go purchase a used storm door or figure out how to repair the damaged one.

A week came and went, and no one called me. I called them and the cycle of no one returning my calls started all over again. When they finally took my call, they said they'd send a new claim form and I could submit each damaged piece's weight, and they'd pay me pennies on the dollar per pound.

As of today, I'm not any closer to having this resolved than I was the first time I contacted them."

DESIRED RESOLUTION:
"I request they issue me a $1,998 check for the damages."

Comments

Same exact thing happened to me here in Overland Park. I couldn't have broke or damaged more items if I had tried. They dragged out the claim for 8 weeks and gave me back pennies on the dollar for what they had broke.
