Not cool

COMPLAINT: Nancy Galeassi, Peculiar, Mo.

"I hired Eric Kjelshus Energy to install a new multi-stage air conditioner. They told me they could install a system that would address my concerns. It never worked as promised, and they admitted the unit they installed was too small for the house.

"Also, the zoning required a few holes to be made in the basement ceiling, but many of them lead to nothing. The air conditioner doesn't cool my home."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like the ceiling in the basement repaired, an air conditioner that's large enough for my home, or a complete refund."

STATUS: Stalemate
The service company responded to the member's complaint, but the two sides were unable to reach a resolution.

Filter fee

COMPLAINT: Laxmidas Sawkar, Overland Park, Kan.

"I had a one-year service contract with Envirotech Heating & Cooling for my two air conditioners, furnaces and humidifiers. When they came to service the furnaces and humidifiers, they replaced the humidifier filters and charged me $110. After a 20-percent discount, the final bill was $88.

"I questioned the high price for the filters, which can be bought for $8. The technician didn't have a clear answer. When I contacted Mr. James Gallet [the president] by e-mail he said the $88 was for filters and service. I called him for further explanation, since I have a service contract, but he never replied to my call."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like a refund of $80."

"After a few e-mails and a good phone conversation, the member and I came up with a fair solution."

STATUS: Resolved
The member told Angie's List she received a refund from Envirotech Heating & Cooling and considers the matter resolved.
