Mass Concrete Works Inc.
COMPLAINT: Jonathan Selig, Acton, Mass.
"I contracted Green Star Foam to apply foam insulation to a family room that adjoins a cold garage, to attic roof rafters and to an exposed crawl space under a kitchen and porch addition.
"Their first estimate was $3,200. They then re-estimated the job for $3,955 and did not honor their 5 percent Angie's List discount.
"They promised all personal property would be properly covered with plastic. However, they damaged heating baseboards, skis stored in my attic and classic car parts stored in my garage with foam overspray.
"I mentioned the problem to the installer. They made a halfhearted attempt to clean off the overspray and gave me a bottle of toxic solvent to clean up their mess on my own. Green Star also didn't consistently achieve the contracted foam depth."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a refund of $197.55, representing my 5 percent Angie's List member discount."
RESPONSE: Sol Cohen, owner, Green Star Foam
"An area in question needed a more expensive foam than the first quote. The change was approved by the member.
"The proposal included moving all items near the spray area. A chemical no more powerful than a degreaser was given to the member to remove any overspray that we missed cleaning.
"When the job was complete, the member seemed pleased with the work. He received a $2,000 rebate from a program that Green Star is enrolled with.
"The member has since received their Angie's List discount, but it was delayed due to a family illness. With all respect, Green Star makes every effort to please every customer."
