COMPLAINT: Jeff Hicks, Carmel
"Accutech Improvements Inc. removed my gutter helmets and reattached them after [another company] installed my new roof.
Paul Bryant, the company's owner, did the work. When I asked about the quality of the new roof, Paul and his co-worker commented that it looked great except for a few torn shingles that I might want to point out to the roofer.
When another company came to my home to inspect the roof, they were shocked by the amount of shingle damage along the roof, especially along the gutters.
To determine who was responsible for the damage, I set up a meeting with Accutech, the roofing company, my insurance adjuster and a roofing engineer. Given the shingle damage was heavily concentrated along the gutters, the majority opinion was that Accutech Improvements bruised the shingles when reattaching the guards.
When Accutech was confronted with this information, they denied any responsibility. But after I threatened to contact Angie's List, Paul Bryant agreed to pay $500 for the roof damage. He hasn't paid, and they haven't returned my calls."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I expect a $500 payment for the roof damages."
STATUS: Penalty box
COMPLAINT: Jay Elbrecht, Indianapolis
"I signed up for 12 months of semiweekly personal training sessions at the North Keystone Avenue LA Fitness.
The first 45 days I was [scheduled] with several different trainers due to trainers quitting, getting fired or their schedules changing.
This proved to be inconsistent in the training I received. I finally got set up with two trainers that I was supposed to see on a regular basis.
I went to four training sessions where the trainer wasn't there, and I wasn't given another trainer. I received no call letting me know the trainers wouldn't be there.
I chose to quit the program due to the trainers not showing up. When I did so, they tried to 'fix' it by giving me free sessions.
I explained that it wouldn't do any good since the trainers weren't showing up. They said I had to buy out my 12-month contract.
They charged me for half of the remaining training sessions I hadn't used, $1,253, instead of voiding the contract they obviously weren't holding up."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want LA Fitness to refund my $1,253."
STATUS: Penalty box
COMPLAINT: C. Frank Brewer, Indianapolis
"I hired Indy Air Care to clean my air ducts. When they were done, there was a cloud of black dust covering my entire house.
They took off right after they finished the job, and I'm unable to clean up their mess. If they would have told me to cover stuff up, I would have done that, but they should have been the ones to do so.
This dust is making me ill. They have said they'll give me their insurance information to get my house cleaned, but they've failed to do so. They also said the price would be $50, but by the time they were done, it was $145."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want Indy Air Care to clean my home and belongings."
STATUS: Resolved
Indy Air Care returned and cleaned Brewer's home.
