Houston chiropractors offer therapy tips for back pain
Get adjusted in your chair as three highly rated Houston-area chiropractors offer advice on chronic back pain and spinal manipulation.
Who can benefit from seeing a chiropractor?
Caroline Long: All patients can benefit. I’ve seen a 4-day-old patient and my oldest patient is 104 years old. I think of it like dentistry. Everyone has teeth, but some people need more help and some don’t need as much.

Stacy Croft: Practically anyone can benefit. We treat patients from the cradle to the grave. The far-reaching effects of chiropractic care makes it an avenue for treating many types of health conditions.
Philip Cordova: We see patients of all ages and occupations. While many people only seek care when they’re having a problem, many of our patients utilize chiropractic care as part of a healthier lifestyle.
What does a visit cost, and is it covered by insurance?
Long: Visits can range from $40 for a basic adjustment to $180 for a new patient visit. It may be as simple as paying your copay. Most of what we do is covered by insurance.
Croft: The average initial visit is $150, and subsequent visits are $50. The amount charged varies based upon their insurance coverage. Most of our treatments are covered by insurance.
Cordova: Most charges are between $50 and $60 per visit. Most insurance plans do have some chiropractic coverage, and most will cover around 10 to 12 treatments annually.
What chiropractic techniques do you perform?
Long: I use Diversified Technique as well as advanced Activator protocol, Thompson, Logan Basic and acupuncture.
Croft: We mainly use Diversified Technique, but we also employ such techniques as Flexion-Distraction, Thompson Drop, Instrument Assisted Manipulation and Graston.
Cordova: We use traditional care, primarily called Diversified Technique. We also use Drop Table, Activator and Flexion-Distraction. Additional techniques give us options.
How long does a typical treatment take?
Long: There isn’t a typical treatment plan, but patients should notice improvement within six to eight visits of any kind of natural treatment.
Croft: It varies depending on the condition. Some people have excellent results in just a couple of visits, but others may need weeks or months of treatment.
Cordova: It varies based on the condition and the consistency of treatment. Our goal for a typical visit is to have the patient in and out within 20 minutes.
