Hot time for summer savings

The recession hit everyone hard, homeowners and handymen alike. With the recession coming to an end, a local Austin handyman advises residents to purchase home repairs and upgrades now to save big money.

Paul Carapetyan of Expert Service, Inc. says that handymen and contractors are still feeling the sting of recession.

“You may have cut back on household expenses in the last year or so. Your home, however, did not stop aging. Fortunately for you, contractors are still recovering from the recession. This is a good time to get bids for painting, repairing and improving the place you love to come home to every day--your home.”

Carapetyan offers a project that goes in hand with this era of savings.

“Your attic is an oven. Your AC probably runs through the oven. It's a good time to have a professional inspect your AC, your ducting system and your attic venting. Proper attic ventilation, added insulation, radiant barrier and proper AC maintenance can slash your energy costs. The best way to keep cool is to decrease your attic's ability to collect heat in the first place.”

I would love to read somewhere an unbiased comparison of spray-on radiant barrier vs. the foil type. As far as I can tell, the latter is marginally more expensive, but does a better job of insulating, but (per salesperson) has the drawback of not being able to be installed in "hard to get to" attic areas. What's the straight skinny?
