Homeowner claims handyman 'eased on out'
COMPLAINT: Fred Dennis, Philadelphia
"I hired Shaw Contracting Inc. of Philadelphia to install screens, work on closet doors, install bathtub washers and complete some other handyman work. Their worker didn't complete the job on the first day. He came back two days later, but as soon as I left, he eased on out, because I had already paid in full. He cut the closet doors but didn't reinstall them; didn't complete any of the plumbing; installed two screens that didn't fit; and didn't install an air vent. I called to get the work finished, but he never returned my call."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like a $120 refund."
COMPANY RESPONSE: Bert Shaw, vice president, Shaw Contracting Inc.
"It was a bad decision. The customer didn't have enough funds, and I overextended myself and didn't put in the time needed to do it right. I took this job when I should have walked away. I will issue the refund and will do better in the future."
