"I hired St. Louis-based Avondale Group LLC to build a room addition. I met with Ismet Mujagic [the owner], who made some basic drawings and I approved them. He made a good impression and had good grades on Angie's List. He went over what work would be done and seemed very professional.

"I signed a contract and gave him a down payment. He gave me a start date, but the job did not start. A few days later, he said he was behind on projects and apologized but didn't set a new start date. He also was supposed to file the permits, which never happened. He has not returned my calls or e-mails and has not done any work."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want my deposit returned so I can hire a different contractor."
