Greensboro dance instructors discuss the lessons they offer


What styles of dancing do you teach?

Natalya Davison: "Ballet, tap, jazz, modern, ballroom, hip-hop - for adults and kids."

Lori Fields: "Ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, hip-hop, modern and pointe."

Jennifer Grinwis: "We do ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, pointe, contemporary and clogging."

Besides learning how to dance, what are some other reasons people take lessons?

Davison: "A lot of times for exercise or because it was a childhood dream to dance. It's never too late to fulfill your dreams."

Fields: "Socialization and fitness."

Grinwis: "To build confidence, increase strength, build pose and grace, and to improve coordination."

How do you charge for dance lessons and what's the cost?

Davison: "We charge per semester for most. A one-hour class costs about $12."

Fields: "Classes start at $35 per month. Private lessons are $22 per hour."

Grinwis: "By the month. For a 45-minute class once a week, it's $42."

Have shows like "Dancing with the Stars" helped your business?

Davison: "It helps us bring in the boys because it breaks down the stereotype."

Fields: "I think it's increased the interest in dance."

Grinwis: "There's a bigger awareness of dance. People are talking about it, which is great."

How many instructors teach in your studio?

Davison: "There are seven of us."

Fields: "Twelve."

Grinwis: "Ten."

How far in advance does someone need to schedule lessons with you before they can start?

Davison: "We start registering in December for the spring semester."

Fields: "If space is available in the class, clients may start right away."

Grinwis: "You can do it the day before you start."

What is your experience in this industry?

Davison: "I started years ago. In Russia, I attended a professional dance school and danced until age 22. After that, I moved to America and started teaching classes."

Fields: "I have 23 years of teaching experience. On Stage School of Dance Inc. has been in business for 13 years."

Grinwis: "I started when I was 3, then missed it when I went off to college. My mother is Nan, so dancing's always been my life. It's what I enjoy."
