We have all experienced issues with our plumbing, whether it be the pipes, toilet or bathtub. But what can be done when a plumber isn't around? Fran Kenney of Certified Plumbing, Inc. gives homeowners tips on how to identify and fix minor plumbing issues.
Why do my pipes sound like they're making noise?
This could be high pressure, water pipes not strapped correctly or faulty parts in a toilet. There are other things possible, but these we've found to be main issues.
Why might the water pressure in my shower be low?
You may have a galvanized water pipe, flow restrictors on faucetry, faulty parts on the tub and shower, a pinched flexible water line or pressure from the water department is low.
What's the best way to deal with a clogged tub drain?
Remove the strainer from the shoe and remove hair. Remove waste and overflow trip lever, the rod and plunger attached to it, and auger down through it. Do not use drain cleaner that has acetne in it. We do sell a product that is great in maintaining through a biodegradable fashion clean pipes if used correctly.
What's the best way to clear a clogged sink?
Remove the P-trap and clean it out. Remove the pop-up on the assembly, push down and take a cloth to clean it out [with a pot underneath to catch the gunk]. Auger the drain in the walls or underground, because these are some of the best ways to clear a clogged sink. For kitchen sinks, we suggest you hire someone, but you can clean out the P-trap first and see if that will help.
Why does my toilet sound like it flushes itself?
You may have a bad flapper, cracked flush valve or faulty bottom seal on the flush valve. There are several things that can contribute to this, but these are the main culprits.
