Dusty coils kill A/C units, homeowner alleges
COMPLAINT: Alice Ryu, Los Angeles
"Simple Air Solutions of Santa Clarita [Calif.] replaced the filters, checked and added refrigerant, and inspected the coils on three rooftop air-conditioning units. A few months later, the units stopped working. I called another company and their technician said Simple Air put the wrong filters in, which caused dust to build up on the coils and make the units freeze up. I've tried calling, but they won't return my calls."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like a $600 credit for repairs."
COMPANY RESPONSE: Christi Saavedra, chief financial officer
"The filters that were installed were provided by the member and coils do not freeze up due to dust, but due to Freon leaks. The member was advised of the leaks, but she didn't want to replace the unit and just requested Freon be added. We're willing to split the cost of the repairs, but we will not cover the entire amount."
STATUS: Resolved
Editor's note: Ryu informed Angie's List that she received a refund for half the cost of repairs and considers the matter resolved.
