Duct cleaning charges up in the air after complaint
COMPLAINT: Jason Mynatt, Indianapolis
"I called Air Duct Cleaning Pros [based in Schaumburg, Ill.] in response to their flyer that advertised cleaning air ducts and dryer vents for $99, and a free heat system inspection. When they looked at my heat system, they informed me I had mold and said it'd cost $8,000 to do the job.
"I told them I only had $4,500 to spend on the work, but I ended up spending a total of $5,578 using three different credit cards. I then made a claim with my insurance company, but they said the charges sounded fishy, so I decided to look into the prices.
"Other businesses told me I was overcharged, and one company told me I should have only paid about $1,200. When I contacted Air Duct Cleaning Pros and asked if they overcharged me, they said no. I've disputed the charges with my credit card companies; two are pending, but one charge for $800 has gone through.
"I had another air duct cleaning company check out my house and they said Air Duct Cleaning Pros didn't properly clean the system, as there was still a lot of dust and debris in the ducts."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a $5,578 refund."
