Drywall disagreement resolved
The Penalty Box is empty this month!
COMPLAINT: Joyce Bode, Katy, Texas
"I hired T & E Home Improvements to paint my den; change out baseboards and mouldings; paint a wood patio cover; and add quarter-inch Sheetrock to the paneling in the den and float and texture it.
When they put up the drywall, the taping and floating was very thick. Troy Jenkins [the owner] brought in someone else to try and correct it.
He didn't paint the doors to the room and he reinstalled the trim incorrectly. He never completely covered furniture or the rug, nor did he put up plastic barriers for Sheetrock work. He never skimcoated the walls; he just added a thin layer of something that looked like milk, then textured.
He reluctantly added another layer because I said I couldn't see any texture. He didn't attempt to match the walls that were already painted above the paneling.
The ceiling beams and ceiling had a quarter- to half-inch crack all around, and he didn't apply caulking until I brought it up. He didn't do outside painting because time ran out."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like him to correct the job."
RESPONSE: Troy Jenkins, owner, T & E Home Improvements
"The member stated that I like putting 'mud' on thick. This makes no sense. Any contractor knows you don't skimcoat new drywall- you tape and float. The beams in the ceiling were separated by half-inch -to 1-inch hollows There was no possible way to caulk this much space. I'd never quote for painting doors, and it wasn't included on the itemized estimate. She never asked me to paint the doors. I also couldn't paint the patio due to rain and didn't charge a fee for this service. Everyone in my crew works for me - I never brought anyone in to correct anything. We're a fair and professional business. The customer's satisfaction and quality work are our main priorities."
