Details of ceiling removal under debate

COMPLAINT: Chung-Ju Lee, Belmont, Calif.

"I hired Alliance Environmental Group Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif., to remove a ceiling that contained asbestos. There were many problems with the work, including damage to the master bedroom/bath ceiling, water/glue dripping down the wall, fragments of popcorn ceiling material sticking to the downstairs bath wall and staples left in the wall. They sent a crew to pull out most of the staples, but they refuse to fix the damaged ceiling or pay another contractor to fix it."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "A refund of $2,000 so another contractor can fix the ceiling and cover part of the repainting."

COMPANY RESPONSE: Edwards Work, branch manager

"Alliance was hired to remove acoustic ceiling materials from the member's residence. The written agreement said the ceiling would not be in a condition to repaint and would need to be part of the member's finish work. Alliance confirmed that the drywall was not damaged but merely needs to be floated, retextured and repainted. We did not use glue in removal of the acoustic ceiling and returned to the home to clean whatever watermarks were noted."
