Dental insurance issue painful for frustrated patient
COMPLAINT: Carrie Vogiatzis, Gilbert, Ariz.
"I went to Dr. Karl J. Baker of Baker Family Dental in Mesa [Ariz.] because I had a painful tooth.
"When I initially spoke to them, I gave them my insurance information, but they failed to disclose that they didn't accept my insurance. I wasn't told they were not a preferred provider until I was evaluated, diagnosed and a treatment plan offered that could be implemented immediately.
"At that moment, I was in pain with relief in sight, and didn't have time to research my dental benefits, so I proceeded with the root canal and crown.
"If I had known upfront they didn't accept my insurance, I would never have invested my time with them. My cost was $1,879, but if I had been treated by a preferred provider, I would have owed $927."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like the balance on my account to be reduced to zero."
